Assigning prisoners to canteen

It says in the cells that there are no canteens accsessible to eat at, although there clearly is, and at the canteens it says there are no prisoners assigned to the canteen but it doesn't show how. I also believe this happening to other things like showers, but I'm not sure.

You can set which canteen is assigned to which prisoners, as well as the kitchen to a canteen through your logistics screen. Click on logistics, and then "food distribution" to set that up.

Prisoners aren't assigned showers however, they use the closest ones to them at the time.

Oh, I wanted to clarify that they are assigned showers in a way - if you zone those showers to be the same security level as your inmates in that region of the prison. But if you say, have more than one shower in a security level, they will go to the nearest one.

Your prison is most likely insecure.
Your fence has a hole.
You used a door that prisoners can just go through.
Something like that.

If however your kitchen has an error message too, then you have a mod that is causing you grief.

@wribit thanks for informing of me this, I also discovered if you directly connect a cell to a canteen with a door (I did it with a holding cell) that also works. I'm amazed about this community and how people will always reach out to help one another.

Another question, as you need prison labour for logistics, does the game autoassign prisoners to canteens if you don't have prison labour?

Micromanagement lets you assign, not prison labour.

No, noone is auto assigned. Without prison labour you can't put an inmate to work. So, if you want to run a kitchen and you don't have prison labour yet, make sure to have enough cooks.

@wribit that's not what i meant. i meant if you don't have whatever ( whatever branch of bureancy and i think it's logistics) it is to assign inmates to specific cells, does it do it automatically, (such as the way prisoners go to the nearest shower, yet with canteens?)

Well the game connect cell blocks to canteens, not single prisoners.

To be more exact: the game assign a cell block to the next valid security level (shared or level of the cell block)
