mouse scroll wheel zoom weird. Scroll for miles, hardly zoom

Hey guys,

I've got an issue with the mouse scroll wheel zooming feature. I've tried it on two computers with completely different mice and they both do the same thing.

When I try to zoom, I have to rotate the scroll wheel a ridiculous number of times just to move one "notch" in/out on the zoom. To fully zoom from one extreme to the other, I probably have to rotate the mouse wheel 20 full revolutions. Sometimes when scrolling it'll zoom in on 3 consecutive "clicks" of the scroll wheel and other times, I can be scrolling for days and it won't move.

Does that even make sense?

Yes, I've tried disabling/enabling the zoom to mouse feature but it doesn't solve the zooming speed.

Any ideas? Is this how the zoom is meant to work on the mouse?! I don't remember it being like this when I first played the game probably two years ago in like alpha 12!

While I don't know how to fix your issue, you can also zoom using Q and E in the meantime.

thanks for the suggestion. I just opened the game and pushed Q and it didn't zoom, it just scrolled the screen to the top-left of the map and it was all black (land not bought for expansion I guess) and E then re-centred it on my patch of land ... are my controls not configured correctly?

ok after a little bit of experimenting, Q does indeed zoom but it only zooms to wherever I last successfully zoomed with the mouse wheel so that doesn't really help me at all because I'm going to need to zoom to different areas all the time! :(

I wouldn't think that it has that effect, but are you on AZERTY?
Do you have any mods installed?

That's my extend of troubleshoot in this area.

I'm on QWERTY and this is a brand new install. I've come back to it after playing it a few years ago so no mods yet until I've tried the vanilla experience!
How does Q and E operate for you? For me Q zooms in the last area I zoomed in with the mouse and it zooms in as close as it can get with one press of the key. And then E fully zooms out with one press too.

Both Q and E -should- zoom in and out at a fast, but still smooth speed.

Last thing I can come up with.
Wipe a few files from Prison Architect, in the Steam folder, then Verify Cache Integrity.

made an interesting discovery.
I just plugged a Logitech mouse into my machine and that zoom works beautifully with the scroll wheel (Q+E zoom is still terrible xD) but the zoom is crap with my microsoft mouse.
Oh well. At least I've got it playable :D
