I find the shower placement acceptable, except that drains need to be around the door, not the center of the room, but your common rooms don't make sense.
Common rooms have no function when they are empty, so instead you could use normal corridors and waste less money on making a foundation 3 squares larger than it needs to be.

It doesn't have a double exterior wall, so throw-ins a'plenty and I sense a severe lack of dog patrols and metal detectors.

Additionally, your garbage area creates long waiting times for trucks. It should be closer to the road or at the very least have its own door to the outside.

If it's my best? I don't know.
Does it work? Oh yes!

If I rebuilt this one I'd however expand the canteen a bit more, i think the "entertainment corner" looks cluttered, and the eastern "service building" could also be more organised.

Here is my current one. Not even 100 prisoners yet, I just opened.

It's a little sprawled for my taste, think about your flow of traffic to minimize travle tiems. also shower rooms are reather ineffecient, if you are going to use them add toilets so that prisoners can take care of both needs at once.

I've been at this a while so my prisoners tend to be pretty large ;-)

What a massive beast indeed o0
Is that still running smoothly?

Mostly. The gang ward can be a little problematic at times. I was testing some theries about managing them and some worked better then others.

I'd love to see a prison wide riot in that monster dang, 2500. I got 500 all max sec with room for 100 more and I thought that's was hectic.

1 - Main suggestion, whenever starting any prison, would be to build a fence all the way around the map (barbed wire is good to start, plan on perimeter wall when you can afford it) and then about 2-4 spots inward from that fence build another one. This gives your prison an outer layer (aka: buffer zone) that is easier to setup dog patrols in (to find tunnels before prisoners get out), and it also provides good advance planning to show yourself how much room you have to work with (and if you need to re-adjust something on your outer layer of your prison (aka: a building needs to be a little bigger) you can always remove portions of your inner fence as needed.

2 - if possible try and build anything that has prisoners in it indoors (obviously yard has to be outdoors, but you can always build a big building and have an open (outside) area inside the building to turn into a yard. Most of the time prisoners outside = problems (escape attempts, up to no good, etc..). It is easy to build a big building and then just add rooms/sections of whatever you need. You can also add to that building as you go to add more room later...basically slowly advancing from a small prison into a massive one without letting prisoners outside...unless they get paroled or die.

3 - Try and relocate your laundry to a more central area. That way as your laundry workers don't have to take all day getting to your farthest cells to get them clean clothes. Faster the workers get the clean clothes delivered, the faster your prisoners are satisfied with their clean stuff.

4 - nice cell blocks. To keep your prisoners happier (especially as you grow larger and more problems pop up) I would consider adding some entertainment (tv maybe) in each cell. That way when they are in their cells, but not sleeping, they are taking care of an extra need.

5 - Also consider adding 1-2 small janitor closets to the outside of each cell block and add prisoners to the rooms to clean your prison for you. This keep some of them occupied and happy, but even better your prisoners will marvel at the new super-clean prison they are calling home and it will help keep them happy.

6 - put the morgue in the back of the infirmary (same building). This makes those sections more efficient.

7 - Canteens. Make your tables/benches have a little more space around them (faster prisoners can get their food and get to eating, faster their food need is handled. If they are too busy fighting the other prisoners just to get to their seat instead of eating, your efficiency will suffer. Only gets worse the bigger you get). IF done right, you can have a big Canteen, with 1 supporting Kitchen) on each side of the road that can efficiently feed all your prisoners quickly.

I wrote a guide for PA awhile back that still explains alot of the basics to run an efficient, safe, and productive prison.

Mosley was my best prison. I keep trying to design new prisons but end up just going back to this layout since it is effective againts gang buisness and escape tunnels.

Hey man thanks for the tips :) il deffenetley check it out because i wanna increase my skill with building my prisons since the design i got layed out,it does work but i see the flaws as the day goes on but tanks for the help once again
Grey Buddhist Sep 12, 2016 @ 8:43pm
@Ozzy - Your welcome. I've gone thru so many prisons because I try and build the perfect prison, get seriously into a design/plan, find out a flaw that cannot be fixed without a complete overhaul, so I sell/restart and go again...and again...until one flaw is fixed and I find another one. I originally started playing this on my PC, but since discovering once my prisons get around medium sized the lag just kills all the fun I'm having, so I went and bought the xbox one version and am having tons of fun with it (still having to do start-overs alot).

I'm building one now that's an attempt to keep them inside dead or alive 😅, with a triple layer outer perimeter wall. First layer being the perimeter wall ofc. Helps pevent tunneling out top it with barb wire and seems to slow down and injure climbers.

Then next is the cliff, helps prevent climbers but doesn't stop tunneling at all (at least so far I've tested)

Then the next is the eerie looking "fence wall" used for the graveyard prefab, tbh thats mostly just for looks because my airlock wall to prevent contraband being tossed over the walls before the inner prison wall is also the "fenced wall" not sure if I'll add barb wire to it yet.

Then for my side street and in the air lock on the back, (ig technically east and west or left and right since you cantrotate but still the entrance of the prison and the back) I have solar panels linked up 39 on each side, (well over what is needed) so I also hooked up power meter to sell off any excess power.

Fenced off the street and put in lock down barricades. Just overkill tbh 😂.

I'm on day 26 of this playthrough (granted I did use a couple exploits..) and my prison is nowhere near done, but in the planning stages ATM.. sok looking to find out how it functions when I have the tech tree unlocked. (Lol not cheating just um used a clone warden exploit type of bug the the spiffing Brit showed me 😅 and a couple other in game bugs.. *yes yes I know that's still cheating but hey .. it let me put up my first walls pretty fast*.

Anyyyywayssss
So in my plans,

The entryway to the prison, has it's deliveries right at the front door like normal.

But I designed the first room to be where visitors come in take the left or right path to the visiting rooms.

But those are guard locked doors, so they have to let in the visitors.
North and south of those rooms, I designed a storage scan intake system, yes on 2 different sides of the prison, they are walled off in their own rooms with the plans of putting 4 scanners and 2 scanner screens attached to them in both rooms (yea that's 4 guards but I'm designing this prison to take in mostly super max sec, death row, and legends because they make more money... And well id rather house fewer and make more than house many and make less, so when I have a good profit margin I'm completely turning off min mid and possibly max, I'm not doing criminally insane this playthrough either.

Sure one could argue it would be better for the island but meh land gives more space to build with less hassle.

So after the visitors room breaks away from the main entrance (main entrance is going to be zoned as nothing just having pathing assignments for visitors to their doors for the real visitos rooms) *yes I'm aware these aren't actually needed I'm just trying to challenge and pack some sardines 😅*

The next room is intake. (Reception) to strip search everyone that comes in as a prisoner.

The visitors rooms will have detectors on them but not for the visitors, weird at it is it's more profitable to let the visitors bring in contraband and catch the prisoners with it when they leave.

And while I was typing this I realized I couldn't have 3 walls on the outside like I planned without taking in my inner walk again and changing hours of plans -_-.

Funny as it is I never finished the story, so .. I'm doing all this on a story map. When you revisit the prison that you first started on learning to build the electric chamber.

I'm also aware 😅 that solar panels take up a ton of space in comparison to the power station .. but ... Big buttttt ... Imo it's worth the exchange rather than having to micro manage the cables not being able to cross them on a bridge in the base game, so much easier to rout power went the solar array is set up, and if you run out (God lol 5 k+ on maps this size it's hard to run out (it takes about 66.666666666666 or 67/68 depending on the sun to hit 5k power on solar yes I did the math 😂 most dollars have a return of About 75 each on average)

I haven't quite planned out my jail cell wings yet. But I know im going to hit the 100 prisoners ask, then I'll likely change everything to save it for later in a sandbox or something. (If it is successful)

Though another feature I have is that I put track paths in my airlock, a single tile completely around my base for pathing patrols later, while there's field grass in the rest of it to slow down prisoners that tunnelled but not far enough 😅.

I also already set up different schedules for prisoners ... Tbh till I decide on finer details of placements it might not be needed but that's just to help keep them separate ATM.. though lol I know at some point I'm gonna load this up and just let everyone kill each other 😂

Lol if you made it this far in my rant, this prison isn't done yet and yours looks amazing, just wanted to share what I was attempting
