Utility Wiring and Pipes
So I have had some close call hiring 80 workers to do fast electrical/piping repair at night when I have to get a new power grid online. This would be a hell of a lot easier if I didn't have to tear up half the old wiring/pipes to put in the new ones so my entire system doesn't shut down.

Is there an easier way to go about this (other then foresight) then this evening rush to get things back online before a riot?

Hiring 80 workers? That seems ridiculous, I've rarely had half that number even in my largest prisons. Tear up half your plumbing? That makes no sense, especially because electricity and water are completely separate.

What the hell is going on in your prison that's causing riots? Power grids are quite simple, and plumbing is even easier.

Because power and piping can be layed on top of eachother and because I've had to make additions for more population I've had to add more and more power stations to the mix. This meant I had to strip a large portion of electric (and piping if they crossed) in order to facilitate areas of the prison not being out of power.

Most crucially the kitchen and laundry areas of my prison. I'm simply asking (I guess I didn't explain this well enough) if there is a way to sort through wiring and piping so I only have to remove the wiring for example.

Just don't cross the wires from different power stations. I usually make it modular, with power switches at the access points for for each different sector, so I can move them from one power station to another as needed.

For the water grid, you're better off keeping it centralized, as they tend to tunnel out using the large pipes. I usually collapse my water as I build the prison, so I end up with a a central hub radiating outward rather than scattered stations along the outer edge that may provide them access if they end up with a couple of tools from the workshop.
This sounds harder than it should be.

There are two possibilities.

1. You created extremely inefficient wiring in the first place.
2. You removed a lot of wiring that you put back in moments later. Redundancy.

If i build a second power station, I usually have to disconnect the Electricity-Net at maybe three or four points -at most- to shut off the power to an entire cellblock, so I can connect it to a new station.

I can rewire an entire workshop with probably six clicks or fewer.

Plan ahead.
