No sound

As of late, I'm not getting any sound in the game 9 out of 10 times. I've tried every possible solution to fix this:

1. Checking options to see if sound is on.
2. Checking preference.txt to see if the sound value wasn't 0.
3. Updated drivers automatically. (was up to date)
4. Updated drivers manually. (just to be sure)
5. Checked windows mixer (game was shown in the mixer, but no sounds bar rose up)
6. Verified game cache on steam.

I simply don't know what to do anymore...

Solutions anyone?

did you try uninstalling the game and reinstalling if you do that and find that the sounds still doesnt work then it may be a hardware issue?
