staff are getting stuck on the food serving table in the staffroom
...and they just stay stuck there forever until I sack them. I can't run a prison while having to pay to hire new employees every day. Is there any way to fix this? Any idea why it's happening?

I don't know why it happens. Moving it away from the wall makes it happen a lot less for me. I don't sack them. I click on them and then right click on the floor to move them and they are almost always able to move.

my snipers get stuck and pile up at the base of guard towers. and my guards get stuck and pile up at the bottom of the pavilion tower. It could be minor but when you have 20+ towers of each. thats like 40-80 staff just stuck there doing nothing. ridiculous.

I tried moving it away from the wall and you're right, it does happen much less now. I can't imagine why that would be the case but at least it helps. Thanks.

That sounds like the issue where staff would get their meals from the serving table, then would all want to sit in the same seat tile, like they were fighting over it, as one guy finishes his meal and walks off one by one.

It's funny you say this, as I was about to update the post with basically exactly this information. I found that the problem is indeed that they are all, for whatever reason, trying to sit in the same seat, regardless of how many seats are available. I also found that moving the other seats "un-sticks" their obsession with The One Seat, and they will get off the damn buffet and sit down in the freshly-moved seat.

However, this is only a temporary fix, as within a game day or so I will return and find another pile-up on the buffet and need to move all the furniture around again to un-stick them. It is truly bizarre and annoying.

Is this a previously known bug? I'd be happy to report it if I thought anything would be done about it, but the Paradox forum is a ghost town and it seems clear the PA team is not prioritizing bug fixes, to put it mildly.

I think the devs are eating at the same serving table and fighting over the one spot instead of fixing the bugs. Probably a pile of dirty food trays blocking the door.

It´s a joke... they crank out DLC like no tomorrow but simple bug fixing... nope! All advanced players have pretty much given up on this game since it´s a bugfest running a well developed prison. There are like 3 major bugs they need to fix in order to make the game playable.

1. People getting stuck for random reasons
2. Staff and prisoners unable to eat correctly (Tray/diningposition/serving table bugs)
3. Staff unable to process prisoners correctly (leaving prisoners to starve to death at random)

There are more minor bugs but theese are the gamebreaking ones.

It's a shame too. I do really enjoy building prisons and trying to rehabilitate. Just I wanted to try with having the staff act a bit more human to add an extra challenge and the prison seemed to be going well but with the staff sticking and being pissed off because they didn't eat while on their break it is pretty much killing it for me.

Well I did make a post on the official bug report forum, months ago. No reply...

https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/staff-get-stuck-on-serving-table-in-staff-room.1522703/

There are other reports too...

https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/staff-getting-stuck-on-serving-tables-in-staff-room-staff-wont-use-toilets.1541343/

I guess you could try upvoting them to bring attention to the issue, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Bringing the bugs to the attention of the devs is more likely to make them say "here's a workaround" than get their act together and fix the bugs.

True. I saw a different post that said the work around in a Snack Machine but find that a rather rude option.

Guards can live off snack machines instead of going home to their houses and eating what's in the fridge. I imagine they go home to another snack machine.

I've never seen a guard leave my prison (except when I fire them) so I imagine that they just live in the staffroom when they're not on duty. Probably sleeping on a couch or something.

Sounds like the guards are the real prisoners. They don't even have their own beds. Imagine if you also had to build little rooms for the guards to live in too.
