Canteen assignment problem
So I just built a second canteen and I have 4 identical cell blocks right now. Logical thing to do would be to have 2 cell blocks per canteen. However, by default the game assigns 1 cell block to the 'wrong' canteen. However, when I try to change it in the food distribution screen, it won't work. No explanation why. When I try to change other cell block's it won't work either.

I'm probably doing something wrong or forgetting a step or something, but please tell me what it could be.

Thanks in advance.

1. do you have micromanagement researched?
2. are these cellblocks pairs supposed to be separate from each other? if so, maybe give them a Staff Only buffer zone so the game doesn't auto cross connect.
To have the game "try again" to connect them, de-zoning and re-zoning should work, after you have put the Staff Only sections that disallow prisoners to crosspollinate.

if you have micromanagement and are working with the food view, use shift button to connect one entity to multiple others.

1. Yes I do have micromanagement researched
2. all 4 cell blocks actually do share other areas so placing a staff-only zone in between is not an option.

I should just be able to assign a cell block to a canteen. The cell block in question used to eat at the canteen I want to assign it to, untill I built the new one. Also, if I close off the passage to that new canteen, the game automatically assigns that cell block to the canteen I want those prisoners to go to. However, when I remove that blockage it just goes back to the second canteen.

I am actually able to assign kitchens to canteens by simply clicking on them, but when I do exactly the same with the cell blocks and canteens it doesn't work...

I don't think this should make any difference: I am actually on the (I believe)last chapter of the campaign. I have not tested this in sandbox yet.

that sounds weird and I'm not sure what's the issue, would you mind providing some screenshots for that? as in, what is the game doing and what do you want it to.

in food logistics, you can forcefully override the default behaviour with your plan. do the connecting lines show?

sounds like something that would happen if the cellblock and canteed belonged to different security zones?

screenshots would really help in further troubleshooting here

I apologise for the sound by the way. this headset sucks and I am recovering from an operation on my nose so I talk a bit weird on top of that :')

okay... so... try to do it the other way around? no, sorry, I'm lost. by all accounts what you're doing should work.

I did try it the other way around. I even tried assigning those solitaries (bottom left) to the other canteen in case there would be some sort of maximum connections or something...

I'm gonna start a sandbox game and recreate this. maybe it's some problem that only exists in the campaign...

Works like a charm in sandbox:

So let's conclude that for some reason the game will not let you change canteen assignments in the campaign...

I'm having a similar/ the same issue. I'm not able to use logistics to edit my kitchen or canteen coverage at all.

Whenever I try to set a room's coverage in logistics it just defaults back to the auto-assignment it has come up with. Same when I try to reset a kitchen or canteen via right-clicking, just defaults back. I'm positive this is a bug unless there was some major change I'm ignorant of.

EDIT: This is in sandbox mode, so there shouldn't be any research/resource conflict.

the reset thing is actually meant to have it try to do it itself by default if you unpause. So that bit is normal. other than that, try to look at it in all the views and assign it while paused.

throw screenshots so we can look at what's wrong.

I have the same issue. I can't figure out either why it isn't working. It's very annoying.

I have the same issue. A cell block not being served by a canteen and the canteen saying there are no prisoners assigned to eat at it.
In logistics I have been clicking on the canteen circle getting the red line attached to the mouse but it simply will not accept the cell block assignment.
