Don't act on the contraband info too harshly tho - every search you order while an Inforrmant is talking to you puts risk on them and you don't want to compromise a good informant. Memorise
the locations (or mark them in Bluepritn Mode) instead and act on the info if you need to.
I tend to just remember where the densest area of contraband is and order a general search there.
Personally, as soon as my newest intake gets off the bus, I manually change every prisoner with "?????????" traits to protective custody and give them permanent lockdown. They stay in these special "tapped" cells until I know their traits. Once the traits are unlocked, I end the punishment. If cop killer or snitch, they stay in protective, but are now free to roam the protective areas. Otherwise, they get sorted into gen pop (and/or gang pop depending on how I'm playing). If it's a pesky prisoner who doesn't have a family need, but has hidden traits, they do their time on permanent lockdown, can't take the risk.
I did have a roster of CIs but never really knew how to use them. Is there anyway of improving a CIs chances of giving up their fellow inmates who are digging tunnels?
I also like the idea of permanent lockdown for prisoners until their reputation is revealed. How often does it usually take, or is it dependent on phone taps on phones, etc?
If you only have a couple of less knowledgeable folks, you could call them all in together.
