Sexual/Mature Content in a kids game? No warning!
http://store.steampowered.com/app/233450/

I bought Prison Architect for my son to play. We played the Prison Architect introduction together and out of nowhere my son was introduced to a sex scene? The characters were completely naked and with sound effects & dialogue. WHY?!!?? If there is Sexual/Mature Content in a game, doesn't Steam require a Mature rating on the Store page, age verification, or at least information in the description that this sort of content is in the game so things like this wouldn't happen???

The cartoon violence isn't an issue. The game is clearly created/marketed towards kids. The realistic drawn nudity is a problem. Does the developer not care to warn people because the game is made in the UK?

The Store page in Steam does not have a rating, so before I purchased the game I read the game description, read some reviews, watched the intro video, and checked out the developer's website which was linked from the Steam Store page. It seemed to be a goofy game that he might enjoy. I'm fine with him seeing cartoon violence at his age. Nowhere in the game's description does it mention that it has Adult/Mature content. We've played The Escapists (a prison break game) together and it was totally fine. I assumed Prison Architect would be on a similar-level (that assumption proved to be wrong). This game is obviously not even remotely intended for kids, so why is there not a warning anywhere? Not even on the game's main website: http://www.introversion.co.uk/prisonarchitect/pc.html

Thanks to KajFlo for providing this URL: http://www.pegi.info which is a website dedicated to rating the content of games. I will be referencing it in the future before making any future purchases.

Uh, no offense, but I do not think that this game is even remotely intended for kids, so you should have researched the game some more before you bought it.

To be honest, I'll probably never understand you americans in this matter... there's gang members fighting each other to death in the yard with blood everywhere, the rapsheets of your inmates list quite gruesome crimes, you have to execute someone on the electric chair in the intro ffs and yet you complain about some nude skin in the game?

In our education system over here in Europe, kids get their first half of sexual education in fourth and fifth grade (at least it was like that when I was that age, although that's close to 30 years ago now) with photos of naked people that show what everything looks like and I even remember a little comic-style movies that showed how pregnancy works from beginning to end.

So it might be my cultural background having had this education when I was your sons age, but if your nine year old kid doesn't yet know how human procreation works, yet is completely fine with and apparently knows much better about the above concepts of death and violence, I would say there were some serious flaws in his upbringing (sorry, I mean no offense to you personally, just the american opinion on educating kids in important subjects).

Why is a warning needed? it's called PRISON ARCHITECT. That right there should tell you it's likely got some strong violent depictions, adult language, and possible other content not suitable for kids. A little bit of reading should have shown you it wasn't suitable as well.
Granted, Steam and creators need to do a better job of making the ratings more obvious, but unltimately it's on the parents to be more vigilant in investigating a potentially risky product.

Honestly you are correct, there should have been some *Mature Content* label, specifically for people/parents like you. Like the dumb woman who buys a coffee and burns herself, and sues because it didn't say "contents may be hot."

Any parent buying a game for a child should always pre-play the game before their child if underage. However if you are ok with the little one getting exposed to Prison-ish content, of rape, drugs, gangs, violence, murder, (human moral corruption in general) .. etc, but get turned into livid rage monster about some sweet lovemaking under the sheets. Something is wrong with that.

However if you want to complain to anyone, complain to the indie developer who made the game for not heeding the rule of CYA(Cover Your Ass) and being like "oh btw, there is some mild brief nudity with some pillow talk," please slap on the Brief Nudity and Adult Language LABELS
>.>

The completely goofy intro video made it seem like it. It doesn't mention anywhere in the game Description that it has Adult/Mature content. He plays The Escapists (a prison break game) which is totally fine. I found Prison Architect after that. Again...Steam has Mature content ratings, warnings, and ratings to prevent things like this. How can a Mature game with Sexual Content get by without any warnings? OBVIOUSLY the game is not even remotely intended for kids, so why is there not a warning anywhere?

If i look at the screenshots in the shop i see prisoners with knifes, much blood, riots and a guy on a electric chair...did you miss that ?

Its very oblivious this is NOT a game for kids (its also way to complicated for a 9 year old anyway) !

If you are concerned about such things, next time look here before buying:
http://www.pegi.info (Pan European Game Information)

Search for "Prison Architect" and see:

"The content of this game is suitable for persons aged 16 years and over only.
It contains: Realistic looking violence - Nudity of a sexual nature - Strong language"

So, today's lessons;
- Research a game thoroughly before buying it for, or allowing, a child to play it.
- Contact the developer if you have an issue about the content and ratings (or lack of). Sometimes things slip past them in development.

Also, I didn't mean to sound so rude in my comment. Apparently some people did, and that's mot helping anyone.
why would you think a prison game would be appropriate for kids?
also, your son could have avoided the cutscene by going into sandbox mode, where there is no cutscenes, but the story mode kinda teaches players how to play this game so....

This is a problem with parents on this time. They just buy a game without thinking about it and give it to their kids, and then they find out it is violent and go and say it is the game's fault kids learn to be violent and use drugs, which is in fact caused because of not paying attention. At least you took your time and noticed your mistake, while others don't.

This is the best tip for any parent to buy a game for their kids: research the game. Every game is rated in some way as it is required by law. GTA V, as an example, is a game rated as M, or mature, so it is only for those that reahed the legal adult age, which is commonly taken as 18 years old in the world by these rating systems.

Prison Architect is obviously a game from every perspective for adult audience, or teenagers at least. The store shows the violence that can happen in the game (the campaign has a riot happening at some point and it can get brutal) and it is directed for mature audience. Even the images in the store shows the game it is, you have a person sitting on the execution chair and a fight wih blood involved.

This is a topic of discussion which should be taken more into account when dealing on how to deal with kids.

yea at 9 years me a most of my friends had watched porn at least once also by that time he should have went through sex ed

honestly I don't see the problem at all I let my kid play halo cod hell even witcher since he was 8 he turned out fine the only way your kid turns out bad is if you as a parent fail him or her
WittyGGamer Nov 19, 2016 @ 12:11pm
I believe earlier versions of the game did not involve the story line and i'm sorry if the description didn't fit the trend for a child.

" This game is obviously not even remotely intended for kids," Then why did you buy it in the first place? It's pretty obvious what it's about in the trailer and screenshots...

It's a game about managing a prison, it has drugs, weapons and gangs; prisoners can overdose and they can start rioting and kill other prisoners and guards.
Yet you're more upset about 1 campaign containing 1 scene of partial (/covered up) nudity and moaning sounds?

-It's rated +16 though, it's on the PS4 case and on pegi website, so maybe they forgot to add it to the steam page.

Right, because everything about the word PRISON in a game title just screams out that it's a game someone should buy for a 9-year old. As a father of three, I find it hard to believe that you wouldn't A) research the game before buying, and B) research a GAME ABOUT PRISON before buying.

No offense, but unless this is just really weak trolling on your part, you should spend some time working on your decision-making and parenting skills.
