Psych inmates can not be assigned to a cell (Is this a bug?)
I have played PA for over 500 hours. I have today purchased the new Psych DLC. I created a new prison and only accepted psych inmates. I used the quick build to make 14 padded cells. I accepted 14 psych inmates. Everyday about 3 of the inmates have a popup that says they can not be assigned to a cell. I have exactly 14 cells and 14 prisoners. if I assign them to an empty cell they go in and the next day another inmate will have the pop up. I even had 14 cells and only 12 inmates and the same thing happens. I have made a padded holding cell to try and see if the inmates get taken there. No luck. I have no mods active, i have made sure that the cell block is zoned correctly. Has this happened to anyone else?

is it possible that they did something or something was found on them and they require solitary punishment? there are solitary padded cells as well in the DLC.

also if you can try to show us a screenshot

HI there. I did add about 7 solitary padded cells, it seems like after dinner when they need to go to sleep some of them do not go to their cells and then the popup happens. Even though the previous night they were in their cells. Every night it's different inmates. It is very strange.

and btw, doesn't it happen to the same cells each time?

I am studying the screenshots,

before I give you an answer, those 2 in the Reception, have handcuffs on, so I guess they are for solitary for sure or lockdown. the deployment also seems ok, the staff area in between shouldn't be a problem since, they are "escorted" from reception to the holding cell or the cells.

give me a moment.

nop not a thing, everything seems fine to me... you have enough guards/orderlies - if that was the case of being lazy to escort them.

staff area shouldn't stop them.

and as I see your 2 new insanes are still in reception for at least 4 hours waiting for a cell.

i would say since you quick build the rooms, try removing and reassign the room type (padded cells) maybe there is some glitch with quick build......

else we get the big guns, @kunovega @Orange @Queen Sails?? are you here?? :steamhappy:

I started another prison, just to see if the problem happens again. It seems to only happen when i designate the cell block as Psych/insane only. if i make it shared then they all go to the cells no problem. It seems like it does not work when the deployment has been assigned. It is odd that it only effects some inmates and not all.

the weird thing is that I always set the area as Insanes only, and I never had a problem with it

Maybe i just need to re-install my game. I have made the cells from scratch and the same thing happens so guess I will just install the game again and see if that rectifies the issue. Thanks for your help.

I don't own this DLC so I'm not fully sure how these new inmates work yet, or whether there are still some bugs to be worked out, but my first thought was perhaps these new prisoners and their prisoner cells are also using the Cell Grading system and are not eligible for the cell quality you have due to recent misconduct?

Do padded cells have grading and is cell grading enabled?
Do psych prisoners use normal cells, or do they require a padded cell?
Will they also use a normal solitary cell for punishments or do they require a padded solitary cell?
Andy.. Dec 5, 2019 @ 6:03am
no, padded cells don't use the grading system. although it's good to add some stuff in there because they are still prisoners and have the same needs as the rest. the only rooms that use the grading system are the Psychiatrist office rooms (they have certain "special" furniture for better treatment which unlock after a number of sessions), the more they are upgraded (up to 5) the more efficient their sessions would be (faster insane releases).

psych prisoners can use both types of cells, although it's not recommended, since they can hurt themselves and others within the normal prison. They also get Agitated and Triggered easily in normal cells. For this reason it is highly recommended for the Psych Ward to be an entirely seperate prison away from the normal one.

about solitary, same as above..

That's interesting, so they actually lose health when they misbehave in a normal cell?

Would they lose enough health to die in the cell?
Andy.. Dec 5, 2019 @ 9:42am
I haven't seen that happening, because I guess almost always I had padded cells under construction. But for sure they like Destruction

It would be interesting of course to see something like that, why not? that's the reason for the padded cells as it is written. it is supposed to be like this.... just as those who don't eat lose health from starvation.

Hi all. I ended up re-installing my game to see if the cell assignment would be fixed. But the moment I designate the padded cells as psych only they stop assigning the mental patients to these cells until I designate it as shared. I have no idea why it is doing that.
