Can a new player have fun with "Escape Plans" enabled?
I played this game ages ago and forgot everything. I want to start a new prison with the "Escape Plans" options on (Prisoners can climb over walls yada yada).

I like difficulty but not an "Oh I finally built my prison and I'm already losing"-experience.

Is it too extreme or nah?

Make 2 fences and there shouldn't be too much of a problem with prisoners jumping fences as long a you keep up on tunnel duty.

In any case you should have 2 fences or at least be blocking them from being close to the outermost fences anyways to prevent them from getting contraband thrown in.

Followed the double fence advice and it indeed saved my behind. Thanks.

Haven't spaced them out enough though, contraband does get thrown in.

I spaced mine out to be 13 squares between both fences and it seemss to have stopped all contraband from being thrown in.
Probably could be shorter but it works for my needs so I haven't felt the need to change it.

If giving up 13 tiles to thrown contraband prevention seem to much to you, just remember you don't need to have the 13 tiles be blank you can put a building to fill that void and just have the door facing into the prison which is outside of the contraband trowing range.
