I need some help regarding which routes guests take
Hello again.
I'm having a bit of a challenge with my prison where I originally thought I had managed to come up with a great design for guests and parole lawyers.
If you look at the screenshot below, I want them all to enter the parole rooms through the green lines and exit via the blue. Thats works fine for the upper 8 rooms.

However, for the lower ones, they follow the red line and basically walks with the inmates - which I don't want.
I've been trying to force them down the green line by marking different areas as "staff only" or "access only". But if I do that, prisoners ends up being escorted to the parole rooms by staff - which doesn't work very well. Staff is to slow, AI gets wonky and they miss their meetings.

Any suggestions?

Put a jail door where the red line starts and get rid of the large jail doors where visitors enter. Also provide an exit lower than the position where they have to leave, since they don't like to walk up and then down. Walking towards map bottom has priority. Best would be to remove the lowest secure visitor booth and make an exit path there.

Oh walking down have priority?
Thats why they take that long detour through the prison instead of following the road... Hmm... Thanks man.

Also in the deployment screen there should be 2 pathing tools.
The red is what prisoners will follow while the blue is for visitors, parole officers, ect.... to follow.

An example for the the top parole rooms is you can put the red line going from going from 1 tile above the top parole doors and down one into the doors.
This would prevent any (willing) prisoner from going out those doors without involving jail doors or zone restrictions.

Now for the blue lines you will want to put them at the entrance parole rooms/ visitation hallways.
Just go one tile to the left of the entrances and then put a blue line that goes one tile into the parole/visitation hallway.
This will should prevent any parole offiver, visitor or other such from going into and through your prison and force tthem to go back out the way they cam in, and your prisoner should not care about the blue lines since they are only affected by the red ones.

Pretty sure it's because of the doors. Visitors as well as staff and prisoners prefer to avoid routes where they would have to go through a lot of doors. Less doors = better and it does not matter if the path will be longer.

You can easily test and see this by making two corridors to one room. In one of the corridors place a jail door and in the other one do not place any. They all will use the one with no doors ;)

So, if you do not want people to walk in some places, place there one or two door and if that's not enough, you can play a little bit with these deployment routes and access only option that's available in deployment menu.

Edit: About going down and its priority - visitors leave the map on the bottom of the road so they do not really want to go up unless that's the only way to get out. Try with placing some more doors on the pathways where you don't want them to go. For example, replace those two wooden doors by upper parole rooms with a jail doors:

You can place some more in the other locations I marked if replacing wooden door will not work. (Wooden door can be opened by anyone thus it does not matter if they are there or not.)

Ah sorry I totally spaced out yesterday and forgot to reply..
Right after posting, I used the blue pathing tool and laid it along the green line. That actually took care of 90% of the problems.
That tool really does wonders and here I thought it was for prison staff only.

I might try and add some fences and regular doors at the line where BadAim suggests... Maybe that will take care of the last ones.

Thank you, both of you :)

Really the blue line tool can be used to block any and all doors that you don't want visitors using by simply drawing a line that prevent them from going out of the door into an area you don't want or, even block off sections of your prison in this manner without the need to place any additional walls or doors to achieve it.

In theroy you could probably create a prison using just the blue lines and have the visitors go where you want them too without any real problems.
