[Guide] Warden mode on existing map
Go to your save file, open it with a text editor (Notepad++ is advised).

Search in the save file until you find something like this (Tip: search for warden)

Id.i 1390 Id.u 4222780 Type Warden SubType 0 Pos.x 275.7138 Pos.y 76.51395 Or.x -0.9975191 Or.y -0.06471513 Vel.x -0.5975825 Vel.y -0.006025860 Dest.x 275.5000 Dest.y 76.50000 Equipment Clipboard Energy 95.78410 Office.i 2 Office.u 1188 Timer 3.000000

add beneath timer a extra line with
AvatarControl true
also copy your id.i and id.u of your warden.

go the bottom of your save file and paste this in and replace your wardens id.i and id.u with what you just copied.

BEGIN WardenMode IsActive true WardenId.i place here your id.i WardenId.u place here your id.u InventoryView true SprintTimer 4.016063 BEGIN Inventory SlotEquipped -1 BEGIN InventorySlots Size 2 "" 29 "" 0 END
BEGIN InventoryAmmo Size 2 "" -1 "" -1 END
END
BEGIN GuardSquad END
END
just as a example this is what i changed in my save file to get it working (dont use this in your save file!)

Id.i 1390 Id.u 4222780 Type Warden SubType 0 Pos.x 275.7138 Pos.y 76.51395 Or.x -0.9975191 Or.y -0.06471513 Vel.x -0.5975825 Vel.y -0.006025860 Dest.x 275.5000 Dest.y 76.50000 Equipment Clipboard Energy 95.78410 Office.i 2 Office.u 1188 Timer 3.000000 AvatarControl true

and this
BEGIN WardenMode IsActive true WardenId.i 1390 WardenId.u 4222780 InventoryView true SprintTimer 4.016063 BEGIN Inventory SlotEquipped -1 BEGIN InventorySlots Size 2 "" 29 "" 0 END
BEGIN InventoryAmmo Size 2 "" -1 "" -1 END
END
BEGIN GuardSquad END
END
hope this helps a bit.

How does one open a save file? Is it located in the Prison Architect folder via Steam folder, if so, which type of file do I open up? A DAT file?

Go to load prison, you will see your save directory there on the bottom left, then open a .PRISON file

No it does not. Only with small files. But .prison saves can become huge beasts of 15MB or more, and when you try to open such a file in the standard notepad, it will truncate the file, rendering your save useless. If it doesn't crash before that. It's simply not designed to handle large files. Notepad++ has no problems dealing with them.

Then you are lucky this time, but be aware that notepad can seriously damage your saved game because of the way it was coded. :)

It works! Thank you for your help! Meanwhile, I will be running away from an angry mob of prisoners as my warden...
I'm sorry but this does not work for me I copied what you did and yet no result. Can anyone guide me on how to do it exactly. Thank you

Notepad++ used to truncate large files...I don't know if they ever fixed that problem because I stopped using it about that time...Atom is my current go to. I have never had this issue with regular notepad and have tested Notepad on save files up to 30mb with no issues.

Edit...after further testing...on larger files I was able to replicate something of a truncation...but I had to create a very large prison to cause it to happen. It seems to start after 3 expansions of land in all directions. Just wanted to correct myself. I still haven't check if notepad++ has fixed its truncation bug though.
