You must approach an intact (non-destroyed) part to equip it. You also must disassemble mechs to access their parts.

If you want to keep the part for future runs, you have to bring that part (as partbof your Mech) to the wrench icon on the map and pay to “analyze” it.

The game doesn't do a good job of explaining this, but you can't directly equip most mech parts as a Labor. Instead you need to interact with a set of legs, first, so you get on them. Next you'll need to interact with a mech head to equip it. From there, assuming your head has arm slots, you'll be able to interact with any other mech parts to equip them, including swapping out your legs and head.

Oh, you have to be riding in a legs/body to equip or change parts (other legs, arms, heads). As far as I know, you cannot pick them up and assemble them?

You need a body to get body/head, and you need a head to get arms.

There'll be a button prompt over dropped stuff. Just hold the button to swap parts.

The forklift has no arm sockets though meaning it cannot equip weapons. You'll have to find a different head part that does have arm sockets first.
you ride in a mech as its feet.... while in a mechs feet u need to look for a chest/head. some heads have attacks built in and some allow 4 weapons to be attached. once u have the head installed, u use the INTERACT button to do this. now u can walk around and get weapons. weapons have a right arm and left arm slot, u cant change this. so if u have two left arm weapons u will have to pick one of them.

u can bring in parts to be registered to u at the yellow shops ingame runs. bring the mech in and u can do it while its on u, OR u can walk in with the part above ur head. u cant repair this way but u can register the part to u still. press the interact button agian and u will throw the part on the ground.

later u will find a skill, think its destruct? and u can walk over and just use the interact button to break a mech down instantly on the spot

Just to be clear, you only need to disassemble a mech if you kill the enemy pilot without destroying their mech's torso and legs. Otherwise, if you destroy either of those components, the mech will disassemble itself.

With that said, you have two options for disassembly:

First, there's the manual method.
  1. Get out of your mech.
  2. Get into the enemy mech.
  3. Bring up the equipment list (left on the d-pad).
  4. Scroll down to the mech torso.
  5. Purge the torso and everything should drop to the ground

Alternatively:

  1. Equip the Demolisher app.
  2. Stand next to a pilotless mech.
  3. Follow the prompt.

Obviously, the second method is a lot more convenient, so I recommend analyzing or buying the Demolisher app as soon as you can and just keeping it equipped after that point.
Also one thing to keep in mind If you have a dropped mech part next to you: STAND STILL
So many times have I struggled to equip those replacement arms when i needed them because I kept moving while trying to attach them. The "you are close enough to interact" part is not a fan of us hyperactive robots:PB_Focused:
