Demo gone?
I first saw this a day or two ago and it had a demo banner. I didn't have a chance to download it until today, but now there's no demo? Will it be making a return?

With the full game up, I decided to take the demo down since I couldn't maintain it with the level of quality I wanted while supporting the full game (it was several major versions behind and I could no longer backport bug fixes safely). Given steam's refund policy, the first couple hours of the game should also give a much better impression of what the full game is like than the demo.

That's annoying, refunds are more inconvenience then a demo

A game's early launch is a crucial time for bug-fixing, QoL fixes, and addressing consumer issues. Kitchen Sync is being worked on by a solo dev. They're choosing to focus on the game rather than an outdated demo of said game. I think that's a wise choice.
You can always watch let's plays on YT if you want a better picture of the game before buying.

Demos are supposed to be outdated 0.0 no one on steam updates a demo once a game releases in EA, personally speaking I would want to try out the demo instead of trying it out while wasting my playtime for the game via buying it but then again you are right about watching gameplay but sometimes ppl would like to try it out themselves and get a feel for it

Isn't a demo supposed to be representative of a full game? So if a demo is buggy and has outdated features, wouldn't that help you form a negative opinion of the main game, even if it's no longer true?

And even if you yourself understood that the demo's not supposed to be a 1:1 representation, does everyone else get that? No, not everyone. So it can hurt the game's sales. That's why it's important for demos to be updated.

A demo build and the game's main build are two different things. The game right now is actively being updated. A new bugfix update just came out this morning. If the dev kept the demo out, they'd have to update the demo constantly too if they want it to fully represent the actual game.

The process would be: update x things in-engine > test > export > upload to steam. This isn't a quick process. I'm a gamedev, and for our game, exporting alone can sometimes take days because of errors.

Now imagine having to do that with every single tiny update, like the daily updates they're doing now. With one dev, they'd either have to sacrifice the main game's quality to give time to the demo, or take down the demo for now. Again, I think they made a wise choice.

Edit: Just read the dev's response again. They said they can't backport safely. Meaning they can't just update the demo even if they wanted to. They'd have to build the demo again from scratch.
