"the missing cotton swab"

Having a problem with a glitch in the game...
After getting into Legrand's cabin you have to pick up a cotton swab and get a blood sample from the Baroness's cabin. Every time I pick up the swab it does not show up in my inventory of items and therefore i can not porgress.Ive read that a few other people have had this issue, but, has anybody solved the case of the missing cotton swab?

I managed to get past the same bug by saving my game, quitting to the desktop and then restarting the game. The swab reappeared and didn't disappear after that.

I checked out the two bullets on microscope , after which my swab became available in my inventory

You can scroll through your inventory when it gets too full. Maybe that was the problem.

This happened to me, when I gave the catapult back the swab appeared in my inventory.
