Stuck at So-and-so's debt clearing quest

I am required to go down into Avadon's halls under the dungeon and release some "red stuff." The only place I'm aware of to get there is the stairs leading to the Lower Cells. However, there's a closed gate when I get there, and I don't know how to open it.

You need to talk to Eye Mamora. But, if you haven't gotten far enough with the main quest ( or don't have a high enough level ) it will only tell you to come later. Once you come back it will open a passage for you.

Ps. I assume you are doing the quest with catching the escaped tinkermage?

Thanks for the reply. I finished the game without finishing this side quest. So, it remains incomplete.
