Operation Starlite Illumination Bombs Not Working
Hello, I doubt I'll find any help but, does anyone else have a problem when dropping the Illumination bombs on the target, is it glitched, is thier a way around it or perhaps the whole mission so I can continue, or am I just missing something
? Any help is appreciated, I just want to do this campaign.

Hi!
What exactly do you mean by glitched? I actually played through this mission a couple of weeks ago, and I had no difficulty dropping the illumination bomb and continuing with the mission.

Select illumination bombs with mouse scroll button, right click bomb as you would normally. Drop on targets as designated.

Well, I drop the bombs on target, even the pilot confirmation voice sounds, and I do this with all planes and bombs and nothing. It is worth noting they blow up like normal bombs. Any ideas?
I dont know whats going on I drop the bomb on target and it glitches on me to I lost all hope for this game

Hi, I recently started over again with this game and I have exactly the same problem like the OP. I drop the illumination bombs, confirmation voice will come and tell me good hits. I already switched to all other available planes and droped their ordnance. Nothing. The target hit-bar will remain at full and there is nothing to do to proceed.

This is starting to look like a real problem now, hopefully a dev will see the thread
Hi - just to clarify, which mission are you talking about? The title of the thread talks about Operation Starlite, but here you're talking about illumination bombs, which are not used in that mission - do you mean cluster bombs, or do you mean a different mission?

I did just try Operation Starlite this morning, and found that the cluster bombs, while a bit finicky and weird, generally do work. The thing to consider is that you need to drop them inside the target circle, rather than aiming for any specific object. I find that this is really only possible when using bomb view (Z). Even then, sometimes the bombs seem to do very little. Probably, even when aiming right, you will still need to use bombs from at least two aircraft.

But it does work in general - and I was playing the release version from Steam like you, so if it works for me, it should also work for you.

Hi Jakub, I will have a look today if it is Operation Starlite. It is a night mission were you have to use illumination bombs on one target to light it up. Therefore all available planes do have only illuminations bombs.

It`s "Operation Game Warden" in Conflict`s Escalation were you have to use Illumination Bombs.
Ok, thanks! I'll check that one out and let you know if I see the same thing on my end. I did play through it successfully a few weeks ago, but that was before the beta patch became official, so something might have changed at that point.
Hah! Got it. Apologies it took me so long, but I found the issue. There is indeed a bug in the mission code, but it can be played through.

Basically: you will only be able to continue if you take out all the hostile MiG-19s before dropping any bombs. If you drop the illumination bomb while the MiG-19s are still around, the mission will be broken - in that case, even if you destroy the remaining MiG-19s, the mission still won't go on. That's also why I didn't encounter this bug the last time I played the mission - it simply never occured to me to go after a ground target while the air was still buzzing with hostiles :).

Interesting to hear, I will test it later.

Hi, I'm also stucked here and taking out the MIG-19s before doing the bombing run doesn't help, sadly... I've already tried that first, because I too felt risky to drop the bombs with some enemy figjters crawling around ! Any other ideas ?
That's a nuisance... I was so happy that I was able to replicate the bug and work around it, and then it turns out it doesn't solve the problem for all people :(.

I'm not sure what else might be triggering it. One thing you might want to check is whether it makes a difference whom you are dropping the illumination bomb with. It might be that it will only work with the main character?

HI, thanks for the reply.
Sadly, I've tried your advice and dropped the bombs with the main character and still, nothing happens. I did it after killing all the MIGs and even retry it (again with the main character) before killing them, just in case... No luck... Boy, that game is buggy !!! Fist, the "Hit Esc at the BitComposer screen" bug, then this ! I've even tried the Linux version and it's even buggier, but for this, I will make another thread (if I have the courage).
