If you aren't far enough into the game for the nuke body, the Laser Knight works pretty well too (basically the same except you'll use the normal body).
Will have to give your Slugger a try sometime, sounds interesting. May not be my "style" of play but definitely worth a shot.
I do like the Gungine part for its ability to keep your combo going even without actively firing and for doing extra damage to naval vessels while you continue to climb. But its slow speed combined with its "jumpy" method of propulsion make it something I use more for fun than for highscoring since once more than a single ace is on the field speed is preferable.
??? Spoilers follow - Honestly I don't see how, it's got to be the biggest let-down of any "super secret unlockable" I've ever come across. For a game I really enjoyed I can't think of a bigger anticlimax than the U-Rauser.
Other than being epic the first time you watch it launch it doesn't have much going for it. It's hard to aim its weapons with any sort of accuracy and being so large it gets taken down rather easily, especially on SFMT where dodging with all that bulk is a pipe dream.
