Heroic mode? and ex mode?
what are they?

Ex mode when you start from beginning but have all upgrades..
Heroic is when you can't save and don't have checkpoints. Only automatic saves between missions

In Heroic you start at zero with no upgrades in addition to losing the ability to save. Difficulty is also a step up from Insane in terms of enemy numbers, strengths, and moves. I have been really impressed with how the game evolves as you replay at higher difficulties.

Can you elaborate on how the game evolves. I have just finished my first playthru, was really nice - I am thinking if it is worth playing again.

Sorry to necro, but this INFO really should be explained in the game itself. just putting that out there to the DEVELOPERS. (how hard is it to have a little description next to the mode? you know, a little more user-friendly.) Just a thought.

I obviously love the game, though. don't get me wrong.

Yeah I agree. Game UIs should give more detailed info on things.

If you use a controller it changes some settings to show more information. This was obviously forgotten to be put into mouse and keyboard control at the end of development but it's nothing really.
