No, but it's more fun if they do. I watched a lot of Wuxias and other chinese movies and also a lot of anime at some point and it would be nice if this game bridged a gap to those in some consistent way - I mean all of those movies, don't matter how campy or cliched, at least get the setting right. I'd be a bit disappointed if they just made it "kinda asian" without any rhyme or reason.
Lo Wang is definately chinese, btw. - remember those "anciente chinese secerets"? In the original I don't mind it that much - it's just a cheesy campfest but the reboot has a real story, so I expect some B-Movie level concistency at least.

The game is certainly set in japan though Lo Wang is a chinese stereotype badass that turned into a monk that never shuts his mouth, though i prefer both wangs ''Not gay''
