This is another one of those not-quite-so-obvious systems. Here are the ways characters can get these weapon upgrade items:
NOT on the list is giving components away. If you've got 50 superior cottens on hand then David decides he wants 5 superior cottons, you've got to use one of the above to get it. You can't just hand him what you've got! (I think this is needed because, when you start a "plus" mode second play-through, you start with all the components you had when you won. Being able to give stuff away would make the whole party super-powered and "plus" mode would turn into "trivial" mode.)
Upgrading weapons (both your own and each character's) is definitely a big deal. Roughly half a character's stats actually come from the weapon he/she is using. The developers have layed things out so you'll run into what you need as long as you do some monster splitting and keep using Mr. Diggs. If you fail to do that, though, you can find yourself getting beat up on pretty bad. The Wikia is hugely handy[LastRemnant.wikia.com] for tracking down components you've missed.
Please, make guide with this little piece of info or add it to last remnant wiki (there is much less info on this topic than in your short post http://lastremnant.wikia.com/wiki/Weapon_Upgrades)
OH! Actually, I forgot one. You can break up weapons for parts, too! I don't do that one very often but it's there.
So you went through the whole game with them begging you to find components and you blew them off the ENTIRE time?? Mr. Diggs has just been twiddling his thumbs for 40+ hours?
The end game isn't that hard, though. If you've gotten by The Fallen and into Ancient Ruins then you shouldn't have any troubles. You've also got the option of dumping the deadbeats and getting some of the last characters that show up (which already have nice weapons).
Circular albic hide is really easy once you get the magazine/daily. Pop into the catacombs and the very first room has a bunch of little frog-bunnies that you can skin.... umm.... frog-bunnies that will drop them. <ahem>
P.S. Like, what do mean DUDES? Like, didn't you, like, give that cute little witch what she wanted? Like, o m g, w t f! ;)
I'm also trying to go Warlock Rush - as a side note - with Wyngale, Leucetius, Yuniver, and Zolean making up the rest of that union. So yeah, mystic powerhouse B) A little money and I'll have 2x mystic scythe on Rush.
Yeahhh I can probably get these upgrade parts for my team if I just dedicate myself. I'm mostly just being a baby about things like spawning brynhildr to get the magazine for the hides. (as an example) Oh wow... I have to hunt down sledgehammer, then whitehorn, THEN maybe nightingale again assuming it doesn't count that I hunted it before obtaining the rank, THEN I can hunt brynhildr for the magazine???? ahhhhhhh
Edit: Sledgehammer down after like a minute of trying to find him. Maybe this won't be so bad?
Oh, some of those were the XBOX requirement. Whoops. Anyways, man I've got turbo on and I turned my viewable monster distance all the way up and I've got like a hundred wiki tabs open and this is rolling pretty smooth now. Feels good.
But yeah, I figured that out about the rares. not to mention the guild quest rares aren't respawnable so it had to be so.
I'm over this whole upgrading thing :|
There's something about this game that makes it never really feel completely experienced. I think it's that a lot of the more advanced ways you can use characters are unlocked so late that it feels pointless to invest in attempting to make use of them. It was a really nice experience playing this on PC, though, and getting to make use of leaders that I would never touch on the 360. There's that group of leaders that almost feel imment as party members so it feels like there's little choice if you're not just trying to be edgy (on the 360). I got every Sovani in my team this time because man do I like the Sovani race. I'd sure love to see this game get a sequel or to see the Sovani race elsewhere. Particularly the somewhat samurai style of Wyngale and Leucetius.
Man, I need a break. My head is swirling. I just pounded on this game all weekend. First time I turned on turbo too. Going back and turning it off makes the game feel like it's actually in slow mo. Like I try to make it feel natural but it really feels like it's unnaturally slow. I played through the whole thing twice on XBOX and up until endgame on PC in normal ol' speed and never felt that way about it. Okay I'm done but boy do I sure feel qualified to answer a variety of questions about this game at this point. Probably nowhere near as qualified as Zephyr from the wiki, however.
