Bluejaws
Im doing the Bluejaws fight and it seems to be to hard for me, if he hits the whole party with laserbreath its game over. When i check the rare monster wiki it says it can't be respawned, reading into it a little more it makes it seem like if i leave to world map i wont be able to fight this guy ever again.

Am i screwed? I don't want to miss out on fighting this guy but i've tried about 20 times already and never even got him to flashing yet.

Nononono, "can't be respawned" means he won't come back AFTER you kill him. Though the little so & so is pretty rare so it would sure be nice if you could get rid of him now.

You don't say how early in the game it is but you might try splitting into more groups. It could well just be too early in the game to defeat Bluejaws, though.

Holy crap, I just beat him after non stop trying, at battle rank 7, with 3 party members. I thought it was now or never so i just kept trying.

so that mean I should keep trying in&out the map that I will encounter this BOSS , right?

Yeah, unfortunately. That's something I really hate about this game. You (mostly) have to go clear back to the world map then run back in. It's not bad when the critter isn't far from the door but sometimes they are deep in. I think I could walk to Prometheus's[lastremnant.wikia.com] spawn point AND avoid all intervening critters blindfolded.

At least the game lets you keep all your formations and daily/weekly magazines when you restart in hard mode. There's no need to solve those guild tasks again unless you're trying to complete everything in the game.

those lazer mobs are real jerks sometimes.

Try a different formation, there are some where people stand in such a way that the laser has a very small chance of hitting more than one.

I noticed this after I beat Bluejaws, but the laser attack is a Combat Art so I THINK you want to focus on getting your union's normal defense up, and mystic defense doesn't matter so much.

Also is it the case that a few points of difference in the defense stat can make a huge difference in terms of the amount of damaged received from an attack? I had two unions, one with a Defense of... 11 or 12, and one with a defense of 8 or 9, and with the union with the higher defense, lazerbeam was doing maybe 80 damage a hit, whereas with the other union it one-hit KO'd them.

Maybe he just crit'd, I don't know.

I did notice something similar with the fire idol and mystic defense, though. Shifting my party members and formations around to boost M. Def by two or three points made a huge difference.

Well, those calculations are tricky. The baddies will do a union or battlefield attack but, if you watch carefully, one of your characters dodges the attack. Area attacks are very hard to predict how many people in a union will get hit by one of those. And yeah, crits show up all over, too, and mess with the numbers even more. And the current state of the morale bar makes a difference to damage as well. With all those variables, it's REALLY hard to tell what one or two points does.

The individuals getting attacked matter, too. If the fire idol's flare attack hits somebody with a strong MDef, it will do a lot less damage than if it hits somebody with a weak MDef - even if they are in the same union.

Oh, and one real good way to dodge the laser arms - don't let it shoot off in the first place. Hit that thing with paralyzation and it won't get to use it until it breaks out. (For rare monsters, that's at the end of every turn.)
