The Last Remnant
Having Trouble with Keyboard Controls?
The initial setup was a bit weird and i saw a few other threads on this so i thought I'd try and help others getting started out who are using mouse and keyboard.

Haven't started playing it yet, but what are your current keybourd settings?
When you first load up the game and go into settings i didn't see all of the configuration options (keyboard, gamepad, graphics). It wasn't until after i saved the initial config (which started the game) that i was able to go in again later and change the controller settings. I ended up stuck with the game started and unable to get out so opened up the user manual on the steam page which shows the default keyboard controls. Once i exited the game (default Alt-F4) and went back to settings did the ability to see the other setting tabs show up. Not sure if thats expected behavior but sure made it a bit confusing when i couldn't even escape out to the title screen in the first part of the game.

If your going to play mouse and keyboard:
1) go to the gamepad tab, under "key signal display" change it to "keyboard". This will display icons for the assigned keys which helps.
2) Also i suggest going to the keyboard tab, scroll down the "battle" section, change or add alternates to the battle triggers if you plan to use AWSD controls instead of the arrow keys (these are like quick action keys where in the fight you have to hit "up" when it flashes on the screen for an extra critical.

Just a note left clicking is also the same as "enter" in game, and usually a good idea to turn on autosave under the system settings.

Thanks for that, didn't know about the battle triggers. I'm very early in the game and pretty confused although I did make the switch to keyboard prompts. So far it seems like I'm moving from one load screen/cutscene to another with very little autonomy, but as I say it's very early and I suppose -- I hope -- I'm still in a quasi-tutorial section. I'll definitely look at those battle commands.
Yeah, you're early in the game. Having just one or two unions is like having just one or two characters in a typical RPG. You barely have any characters in the unions and those characters barely have any skills so your battle choices basically boil down to "hit it with a stick" or "hit it with a spell."
If you are going to keep playing jrpgs then I suggest getting a gamepad. If you already have a PS2/PS1 gamepad you can get a converter. PS3 and (Xbox?) should work with a PC right away. Though the PS3 (not original) controller I have works better for Last Remnant when I use an application that tricks the computer into thinking it is an xbox controller.
