Bai Ze Strategy?
Now I know this guy has been buffed up on the PC version as compared to the 360. I have 5 unions and my hp ranges between 3k and 4k for each union (currently at 61 BR) I've just beaten Darken Forest too. Now usually what happens is I go in and try to lower morale but it's never quite enough to stop him using dark breath the first time he can and then when this happens I usually lose 2 unions and am then stuck with 1 union engaging and then two flanking, this works up until the point morale doesn't lower enough and then I get dark breathed and inevitably lose the fight shortly after. I will update my teams shortly but I would like to know am I missing something vital here?

My teams are;

Group 1

Jager
Baulson
Duke of Ghor

Group 2

Rush
Pagus
Irina
Zolean

Group 3

Torgal
Gaou (Obsidian)
Loki
Caedmon

Group 4

David
Allan
Gabriel
Jorgen (Warrior) (Recruited Late)

Group 5

Emmy
Blocter
Darien (Recruited Late)

First time I fought that thing was when he's a guaranteed spawn in the first kosmosfest side quest. I was around BR 45-48 and he slaughtered me. Was able to beat him but had to do a lot of reviving. In my current playthorugh I tried to keep my BR to around 35 until you get 18 party member slots, then started to raise it from there. I also prioritised side quests that grant new party members for hire (violet, gabriel, glenys, roberto etc) and did NO others save for the ones you have to do before the aquaduct except for "the hero" which grants vanguard formation. Try using 4 unions instead of 5 for the HP/AP boost. I've found that 4 unions is better than 5 UNLESS you have a boss fight where the boss(s) are backed up by several enemy unions as well (Nest of Eagles etc). This guy is a single enemy so 4 will be better. If your hexes/psionics aren't dropping his morale enough, try pulling in another enemy with the dragon so your morale will start a bit higher.

I'm not sure how you went about the game, but keeping your BR low until you can have the max number of characters is a lot better than levelling too fast. Guys you have from thye start like Rush, Dave, Torgal and Blokter will be fine, but new recruits' stats will be too low for your high BR.

Apart from a few units listed I got most people early, some units like Allan came across a bit later but that was mostly because of the shear amount of quests I had to do which got my BR up to about 41ish by the time I had finished disc 1 and then proceeded to recruit the next lot of units.

On a seperate note, I got up to BR 64 and beat Bai Ze but it was completel luck, I had just emmys unit left on about 800HP and she finished him with Acala's Wrath. If it was not a finishing blow I would have died instantly after :(. I will try the 4 units instead of 5 for now however that might not be as efficient as I won't be able to flank with a secondary unit too.

Take advantage of specialized formations: http://lastremnant.wikia.com/wiki/Pincers%27_Grip_Formation

Those formations came in handy :) Just beat him again, barely but had 3 unions this time when I finished and now thankfully both Caedmon + Pagus learned Revitalize which is great. Going to keep going at it and seeing how many more I can get.

!?!? Are you not rezzing your units when they get KO'd??
Cloud May 10, 2014 @ 2:40pm
I've beaten him a few more times and I have been using kiss of life, I am confused though as to why my units are scarce to use vivification herbs to revive one another? This has been a reoccuring problem all game and has made some battles...difficult to say the least. Thank god for Irina.
Zloth May 10, 2014 @ 4:25pm
Have you got all the herbs you need? Each power requires two herbs - it's easy to run out of one.
Steelflame May 11, 2014 @ 3:17pm
Yea, you can run out of herbs easily. Most of the towns have a shop with all the herbs you need in them, but also, 4 > 5 unions until very late game. Better setups for obtaining arcana, stronger defensive setups, and it allows strong mixes of combat and physical at times, which is good for when you have to handle large variations in enemy union formations. (Like a boss with 5 side unions backing him up. Send in a strong tanky physical union to fight the boss, other 3 take on all the adds before backing up the "bruiser" union. Current bruiser union I use is set up with Ghor, Blocter, and Baulson. they all have 2k+ hp for a total of about 6.2k, and my other 3 unions add up to 6k HP as well (with 5 units, lol. Those guys are beef-tanks in my bruiser union).

I switched out Jager from leading his sector nad made Duke of Ghor the leader of that group and had Jager take David's old role.

Bel'Kwinith's fury or whatever Duke of Ghors special is hit 187,000 damage on it's own which is by far the highest I have ever hit (Lugh's revenge only hits 80,000) needless to say, I 5 turned Bai Ze because of it. Hopefully I will be able to grind to around 75 BR from this and beat the fallen because I know how badly I need the twilight of the gods for my NG+

If you max out your morale then he doesn't do end of turn attacks and becomes quite easy.
Cloud May 16, 2014 @ 11:12am
Yes that was my first step to beating him back then, albeit with a bit of luck. I had only 2 units who could lower morale but now I have 4 so am finding it easier and easier, sheryl almost always flanks him now which is great because she also effects the morale gauge. As I am playing this playthrough simply to play through to "The Fallen" kill him, and then do a new game+ with the Rag-narok as well as other little useful components and items.

How long should I keep killing Bai Ze? Until I get Caexchia or whatever it's called?

Gonna go out on a limb and guess that you didn't use the PC grind trick. Getting Chachexia is a pain without that since it took for freaking ever for my Zolean to learn it.

The big trick to handling rares like Bai Ze when they're tough like that is to disable any talents you don't intend the Union to use to force them to use the one's you do. If you want to get Cachexia as this stage you'll want to disable anything that isn't a hex so that that's all he'll use. Also make sure that you're intended healing Union always flanks so they'll heal up your unions before the next turn.

I found that it was easier to start a new game plus with all the mats and talents from the get go to beat The Fallen on my second play through which I did only 10 minutes ago at BR 63.

My teams were

1)Rush + Baulson + Jager + Emmy as a combo damage + healer team

2)Zolean + Rhagoh + Violet + Irina. I disabled all of Zolean's moves other than Cachexia and flanked as soon I could

3)Torgal + Bloctor + Caedmon = damage team & backup heals

4)DoG + Roberto + Darien = pure damage

5)David + Pagus + Maddox + Leshau = Mystic damage and heals

Forget Zolean and get a hex soldier right at the beginning. My Chamberland (I think it is his name) had Bewitch when Zolean was available.
