Sure, send me a message, even if I don't think it's Steam fault. I installed it on my old laptop with a GTX 1050 and it never crashes, even if I use the save files of my main PC (where I have a RX 6700XT), MSI Afterburner and TLRPlanner: it's rock solid
At this point, I think the problem is linked to AMD GPUs, but I'd like to try your workaround
Send me a message how please as well
On my main rig running an i7-12700 + RX 6700XT, the game crashes almost predictably after a few minutes in Windows 11, but runs flawless in (Garuda) Linux; I dual-boot.
I'll install it on my laptop which running on Ryzen 4800H + GTX 1660ti Mobile (Windows 10) to see if it performs any better there. If I'm feeling REALLY motivated, I'll try swapping in a GTX 1070 I have lying around waiting to be sold.
Howdy I also have been looking for a solution. Would you be able to send it to me?
I posted in this thread as crashing is the issue as opposed to "game won't play". Cody posted in topic "Game sometimes won't play" that the game crashes at transitional scenes. That is what I saw and (?) corrected on my computer.
I upgraded to a new computer, transferred many game saves to that machine and ran quick tests of them using old saves to ensure they ran. My new machine is more similar to that described by Technomancer. Like Cody, TLR crashed consistently on transition scenes - particularly when transitioning from end of battle stats/loot window.
Another game I had transferred had crash issues and I found a fix online for it. LOL, the game is Technomancer! For that the fix was to change the number of active cores to four. I decided since I found nothing else, I would try that on TLR. I changed to having only 8 active cores (the same number my old computer has max) and the game then ran fine.
Here is a link to MicroSoft instructions on how to do that for Windows 10 (boot tab section on the page):

I have not yet gone back to play a full run of The Last Remnant as it is not yet at the top of my list of games to play again - only tests have been done to get it going.
So, why was I reluctant to post this? When I saw the post, I decided I would see if the game would work with more than 8 cores before posting. My plan was to start by crashing the game with all cores active, then successfully running it starting with 8 set, then trying more cores until the game crashed. The game ran first time with all cores active! AFAIK, I have not made any config changes that would affect the game running with all cores. System and Steam updates have been done when they became available. No game saves were made during testing so there is nothing in game save files that changed. I do not know, but maybe there are some config files that changed when I tested with only 8 cores that somehow fixed the crashes?
This would be great - started playing this again recently on a new PC, and keeps crashing - never had a problem on my older machine.
That's interesting... Event Viewer is telling me vorbisfile.dll is faulting, I was thinking it had something more to do with this vs # of cores at work.
i got a wierd problem.
last week, i downloaded the game trough the internet. Played it with no problems.
i decided to buy it in german, and activate it on steam.
Then i try to play now, it crashes after the first Mission with David, the Tutorial One.
Anyone could know what the problem is? it must be steam version.
i also play with AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Core
Everything is freshly updated.
Windows 11
What GPU are you using? The running theories seem to be that the crashing is caused by AMD GPUs, OR by having a CPU with a certain number of cores or more.
Thanks for the quick respond!
I use a AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT
recently updated.
i quick update to my problem: The crashes are completly random, maybe after 1 min, maybe after 5 min.
Try the solution proposed by DeputyDawg. If that doesn't resolve things, then the issue is likely the AMD drivers.
I'm using an RTX3080 with Ryzen 5900HX cpu. Will that crash my game?
