I knew I had seen a topic like this one a while ago where someone owning a PS4 controller wanted to play this game (and it was apparently a setting in DS4Windows), here is the topic in question:

Recently game stopped recognizing my logitech F310(working in xinput mode)(which worked fine on initial setup). And somehow it was fixed by deleting "Config" folder (C:\Users\username\Documents\My Games\The last remnant\RushGame\Config)
I found the simplest fix possible (for me, and this works with all gaming controllers I own, including generic, PS4, PS4 via Bluetooth, and Xbox) is to go into Steam > Settings > Controller > Big Picture Configuration. Easier even than that is to launch the game through Big Picture, and it'll tell you to configure your controller (where you can choose a generic 3rd person setting that works great). Then in-game, just set it to the "Xbox Controller Prompts" and it's all good.
I'll give it a look at in a moment and report back. I *used* to have no problem with it. We'll see in a jiffy.
But it used to work for me with my controller, too, but no longer.
Must be a half-assed patch they put out that interfered with the X-Input driver
And it's only a big deal with ports that use outdated licensing and such.
