Rush in particular ultimately has the ability to get any of the high tier classes because he can learn all skills by unlocking them via quests (like you unlock invocation in the tutorial).
The only real rule is that you can only get a class of higher rank than your current one (it can even be multiple ranks at once in some specific situations).
With Rush as as a Monk focused on items (I assume mostly herbs) and combat arts (because pure item focus without combat arts is nearly impossible anyway), it is likely that he will sooner or later become either a Scout (rank 5 in the item+combat green classes on the wiki) or a Guardian (rank 5 combat class with items greater), but most likely Scout because it's excessively easy for herbs to be "significant" for Rush when not using him as a mage.
As for stats, they are somewhat influenced by what actions you take, but everything tends to grow at a somewhat similar pace (not on the actual values but on the progression as there are soft caps that are different for each unit and stat).
But which stat is the highest has absolutely no impact on the possible classes outside of being able to reach the required stats for a specific class earlier (and changing into it if the other conditions are met).
A high strength character that focuses on mystic is usually a bit of a waste, but it's still possible for that character to reach a mystic class as long as the conditions are met and the current class is lower rank.
- Weapons significance only: Combat class
- Mystic significance only: Mystic class
- Mystic significance along with any other type: Mystic+Combat class
- Items significance, overriding the significance of other types: Item or Item+Combat class
Classes can change only into higher tiers than the current one and only if the class type as well as the individual requirement of that class are fulfilled.
So yes, Rush in a normal game will progress from Fighter either towards a Tier 2 combat class (Freelancer, Ranger, Monk) or a Tier 2 mystic class (Magus, Sorcerer), depending on the most frequently used type of arts.
So I have one more question. Classes come with skills. When you change class, do you lose previous skills?
For example, if Rush became a Ranger at Rank 2 this would grant the [Side-On] skill and the unit can use the flanking command. If Rush was to then become a Healer at Rank 3, could he still use the flanking command?
On the plus side, it also means that as long as you get to the class you wanted, the classes you got previously will not matter, so you can just train characters (and Rush in particular) towards the class you want them to end up as, without having to min-max class-up at every single step.
As for the case of "side on", two of the end classes (rank 6 assassin and rank 7 ninja) have an upgraded version of it called "ambush" that allows you to do the same but from behind for an even greater bonus in damages.
