Class Tree?
I'm a bit confused by the class system. I've looked it up and I can't understand how to proceed.

The wiki has a table, but the table is kind of confusing. If I wanted to could I rearrange the table into a flowchart or does it just not work like that?

For example, at the start of the game, Rush is a Fighter. Does this mean that depending on my skill use, he can become a Monk, Ranger or Freelancer next? Or is Magus or Sorceror a possibility?

And then, say Rush became a monk with Item focus, I dont see and rank 3 classes with item focus, so how would that continue? I also wanted to ask, can stat gains actually be influenced or just the focus?

If stats can't be influenced does that mean a character with a higher natural strength can't become a mystic class, and a character with higher natural int can't become a combat class?

It does not work in a tree, you can go from the physical branch to the magical branch in a single class up for example.
Rush in particular ultimately has the ability to get any of the high tier classes because he can learn all skills by unlocking them via quests (like you unlock invocation in the tutorial).
The only real rule is that you can only get a class of higher rank than your current one (it can even be multiple ranks at once in some specific situations).

With Rush as as a Monk focused on items (I assume mostly herbs) and combat arts (because pure item focus without combat arts is nearly impossible anyway), it is likely that he will sooner or later become either a Scout (rank 5 in the item+combat green classes on the wiki) or a Guardian (rank 5 combat class with items greater), but most likely Scout because it's excessively easy for herbs to be "significant" for Rush when not using him as a mage.

As for stats, they are somewhat influenced by what actions you take, but everything tends to grow at a somewhat similar pace (not on the actual values but on the progression as there are soft caps that are different for each unit and stat).
But which stat is the highest has absolutely no impact on the possible classes outside of being able to reach the required stats for a specific class earlier (and changing into it if the other conditions are met).
A high strength character that focuses on mystic is usually a bit of a waste, but it's still possible for that character to reach a mystic class as long as the conditions are met and the current class is lower rank.

Most important thing to consider is Class Type, which is determined by the significance of either weapon, mystic or items.
- Weapons significance only: Combat class
- Mystic significance only: Mystic class
- Mystic significance along with any other type: Mystic+Combat class
- Items significance, overriding the significance of other types: Item or Item+Combat class
Classes can change only into higher tiers than the current one and only if the class type as well as the individual requirement of that class are fulfilled.

So yes, Rush in a normal game will progress from Fighter either towards a Tier 2 combat class (Freelancer, Ranger, Monk) or a Tier 2 mystic class (Magus, Sorcerer), depending on the most frequently used type of arts.

Thanks guys.

So I have one more question. Classes come with skills. When you change class, do you lose previous skills?

For example, if Rush became a Ranger at Rank 2 this would grant the [Side-On] skill and the unit can use the flanking command. If Rush was to then become a Healer at Rank 3, could he still use the flanking command?

The only class bonuses you get are from your current class, which is why you usually don't attach too much value to classes that are not "final" for that character.

On the plus side, it also means that as long as you get to the class you wanted, the classes you got previously will not matter, so you can just train characters (and Rush in particular) towards the class you want them to end up as, without having to min-max class-up at every single step.

As for the case of "side on", two of the end classes (rank 6 assassin and rank 7 ninja) have an upgraded version of it called "ambush" that allows you to do the same but from behind for an even greater bonus in damages.

Thanks again. That makes things a lot easier. It still seems like a hige challenge to manage allllll these units but I'm starting to make sense of it. I also came across TLRplanner which is honestly a godsend. I like micromanaging this stuff.

Down near the bottom of this page: https://lparchive.org/The-Last-Remnant/Update%2004/ I made some diagrams. The important thing to take away from that is that you can only ever move from a class to one one number higher - not to a class on the same number or lower.
