Did the devs ruin save editing/inspecting?

I just encountered an artifact I can't figure out, and I was going to examine it in the "Artifacts.gsav" save file, like you used to be able to do.

However, the file isn't there.
It just doesn't exist anymore.

So, I try opening up the "master.gsav" file instead, thinking they might have just merged them, but all the text in it is indecipherable, looking something like this:

This is the case for all the save game files now, as far as I can tell.
Whoever thought this was a good change is dumb. I used to be able to do a thing that helped me enjoy the game more, and now I no longer can.


Is there any way around this..?

This is a problem with your text editor.

It's compressed with gzip. You have to decompress it first. That change was needed for steam cloud.

Edit: You sure it's Gzip?
The tools I tried to convert it with failed to recognize it as such.

Edit edit: Okay, found a tool that could decompress something like 70 different types of compression and it worked, so I'm all good.

Hello, I'm not sure if you're playing the game still, but I was able to extract the files using this website: https://extract.me/

I'm not sure which file format it decompressed the files from, but it is for sure one of the 70 file types listed on that site. I hope this helps.
