You can't play Dwarf Fortress steam version for free. He added content and value to the game before they released it on steam. You can play the non-steam version that doesn't have the new features yes. It's also not open source.
Agreed. Yet it does need to be clear that it is a 'free' game. For long-time fans it's sick to actually donate and just have it in your steam library. but what I am more concerned about is people who never heard of this game before. Assuming that there is no free version to at least try before purchasing.
There are no added features that are not present in the free version of the game.
Only the tileset huh? Are you sure about that? Not gonna say it's a massive list, but that's just being dishonest.
When you say massive list; does it only include these things?
Improved UI
Mouse support
New soundtrack
Because the "improved UI" comes with the tile set.
Mouse support is said to be implemented in the free version as well, might've already been added.
New soundtrack, sure, as long as you don't like the old one.
Apart from these, I must've missed the other "massive" improvements they've made that isn't available in the free version.
Only one of these is actually planned to be exclusive, which is the new soundtrack and even that might change.
Not saying people shouldn't buy this game. It's out crazy not to ask that devs get paid for their coding. If you like this kind of games, you'll get hours out of it. All I am saying if you are going to sell a free game and keep the game free while also selling it. That needs to be communicated. And it can not be free since it's open source.
If you are incapable of searching basic things let me tell you.
If you are unable to do a simple google search. It is massive UI changes., graphics (as you mentioned), music, and access to steam Workshop. Here let me quote myself "Not gonna say it's a massive list"
Now, what were we saying about C:DDA?
Edit:
"When you say massive list;"
I said
"Not gonna say it's a massive list,"
Lol?
Veep and zeeb, it looks to me like you're mostly talking past each other... it's getting a little overheated and I recommend just letting it go. Removed posts with inappropriate content and their replies.
Wouldn't be the first person in this thread to misread something <3
When I first read OP post I thought it was something sexual haha
