Is there ore and resources that I can mine out of the ground?
Coming into this game after playing some dwarf fortress has me curious how well this game handles digging a base into the ground.
Also I am curious about how many z-levels you can dig down and also what may be in the ground for resources.

The way this game is structured I am sure most resources will be in looting buildings but It doesn't hurt to wonder what would happen if I was to strike the earth.

I’m still pretty new myself got a few hours on the freeware then bought it here, it feels like the Z levels in this game are really ♥♥♥♥♥ and the ai isn’t super good at them yet even like some slopes confuse them but not
Sure if that’s because they were zombies (some of which have intentionally very low perception values for lore reasons) or if it was them being confused, I know bigger staircases really mess them up tho so digging into the ground might be pretty lonely but you can actually use timber and stone to build some pretty well made structures and also the agricultural system is pretty in depth and you can become self sufficient and if you really want do the DF thing you can make alcohol but that being said this isn’t dwarf fortress tee hee wing hundred proof every few hours you’ll either develop a metabolic addiction or kill yourself if you drink too much or too strong

As for Z levels it is 10+ and 10- I believe. Additionally, when we get 0.H (hopefully any day now) the AI and the game in general should handle Z levels better.

You can get some resources from mining, but I don't think you can find random ores by digging in the same way as say Dwarf Fortress. I think, for instance, you can make some types of sand, concrete, etc. from dug Earth.

It is unlikely you would ever want to mine for resources, as opposed to finding and looting an industrial mine. Also, you need to think bigger than digging. This game lets you make *barrel bombs*, nevermind trivial explosives like dynamite.

I haven't tried mining yet, but i think there is a mod floating around that adds ores and mining related things.

You can definitely mine

But my preferred use for Z levels is throwing grenades down stairs

On one hand it seems kinda cheesey but considering this is the same game where positioning yourself between a bench lets you win almost any fight anything goes lol

Hahaha I dont actually think it is cheesey for grenades, thats how you are supposed to use them in real life too isn't it? It can maybe get cheeseyish with the spear poking from roofs but I still like even the poking, otherwise cities would be hell to clear.
