My list of beginners questions
ALRIGHT so, first I gotta say, this game is both super cool and super confusing at the same time. It has left me with many questions, some about gameplay, some about lore, and some about mods. I'll just go ahead and get into them now.

1. MODS! So I know about the first party mods, but I have either not lived long enough to encounter them (my longest living character has survived for a week, and is also my current active character.) How do I enable the stuff like magicalysm if it isn't already in?
2. weapons are kinda neat but I feel like I got such a small arsenal. Where should I look for to get cool melee weapons and such? I'm big time desiring unarmed weapons if there are any.
3. Funger. Those fungus things ever so often come with female sprites. Whats up with that? And additionally, what's the difference between zombie infection and the fungus, other than treatment options?
4. Drip. Fashion, even. I wanna deck myself out in customized clothes, but I can't seem to find anything more than just boring ass threads. What locations should I scout for to get like, the buttons and zippers and such?
5. Bionics. They're cool, I want them, but I also want to run a proto cyborg character, and have them fix themselves, what location do I need to ♥♥♥♥♥♥ myself?
6. Mi-go camp. I did the mi-go camp challenge a single time, and found it impossible to even leave the starting room. What strategy must one use to even get out of there?
7. This one's a bit more of a silly ask but why the hell do NPCs sometimes decide to shack up in zombie population dense cities, are they stupid?
8. There has GOT to be a better way to clear out zombies from the suburbs than using a match and lighting a house on fire, what's a better method of combat so that I feel less like a cheeser?

1. You select the mods you want to use during world creation, I don't think you can just enable any after that

2. Unarmed weapons are hot garbage my dude, why would you want to punch zombies and horrors beyond human comprehension. If you want to play unarmed, start with a black belt. If you want really good melee weapons, like swords, you gotta learn how to make them, and hopefully learn an appropriate martial art to use them with. I like to make tempered rapiers and estocs with fencing. It's possible to get diamond coating on them as well but you'll have to figure out how on your own.

To be honest, there are so many cool guns and gun mods, idk what's so interesting about finding melee weapons, but there tend to be crash axes and fire axes at fire lookout towers, and you can find aluminum bats all over the place. One other place I'd point you to is a prison. If you break open the front door, there is a room just inside the administrative building (well separated from the many dead prisoners inside) that you might find interesting in terms of equipment.

3. Why not try inhaling some of the spores. Maybe eat the funny looking fruit and flowers you may encounter near the fungal flowers. Find out for yourself.

4. Some people have a whole tailoring set up in their basement, it's not that uncommon. There are stores that sell such things, you could look for one of those.

the rest you should really figure out for yourself, wouldn't want to rob you of the joys and struggles of discovery

that's hpnestly a fair response, but my addiction to running melee builds in every game runs deep. If there's a chance to run full melee, I will do it. I just have a caveman brain for that sort of stuff, and love punching the ♥♥♥♥ out of things. Though I must say, you terrify me with the spores response.

Don't get me wrong, melee is incredibly powerful in the late game. With the right bionics, high melee skills, tempered weapons and martial arts, you can make short work of things that would require .50BMG to reliably dispatch with a gun.

Also I did say unarmed is trash, HOWEVER, I was talking about humans punching things. You can become so much more in this game.

This pleases me greatly to know. Thanks!

My first successful run was melee. I used quarterstaffs and scrounged some american football armor. I didn't really know what I was missing compared to guns, so I wasn't bothered by it.

But all I could really do was go on night raids, sneaking around trying to stay unnoticed while making sure I had an escape route. It was actually quite thrilling, and I was desperately trying to find a tool to repair a car or a functional car.

I didn't know at the time that I was quite unlucky with the car, but it turned out to be good gaming experience

I could take on a lot of zombies if I ran away. The few that followed me into the forest would have a hard time catching up. But I was constantly wounded, so I had to retreat eventually and recover at a base

After I found a car, it wasn't long until I found a military base of some sort and I was loaded with guns and ammo. In the end I was just driving through towns while my vehicle turrets shredded everything

Anyway, I think melee is a great experience in the game, but it's not something that can really scale up in power, so you are handicapping yourself to a degree

Melee scales up very significantly. In the late game, 99% of encounters are more conveniently resolved by running up to things and beating the ♥♥♥♥ out of them, than fumbling around with a gun.
