TIL about Vintage Story, thx
my gut says that
is the key here.
the question is what exactly do you like in CDDA and is it solely the graphics that you dislike? cause there's tons of games that look better.
like the quote goes on
that means there's something about project zomboid you dislike. what is it exactly that you're looking for? It's impossible to determine what you like or who you are snce your profile is private and since this thread is over a month old. it might as well be closed since the OP is deaf as well.
i'd even bet money that the OP just posted that troll OP to take a jab at CDDA
I just cant stand cdds graphics and dont like how its turn bassed or what ever. if it played and looked like pz id like it more, and i dont like pz that much because zombies get boring after a while and pz doesnt have as much stuff as cdda. iv tryed using mods in pz but its just not the same
I like how much stuff is in cdda and the amount of ways you can play it, and it has a very "organic" approach to the open world survival crafting genre
the only games you enjoyed via reviews, as your profile is private, with enough playtime to possibly beat the game and based on what you said so far in this thread would be rimworld, pz, ftl, 7dtd, unturned and warframe
yet ftl is and rimworld are semi turn-based, so it's hard to believe that you don't enjoy turn-based games. (see why not making your profile, games played and playtime public is so important to get proper recommendations?)
what i'm gathering. you want a deep & complex game. that is real, meaning no magic. that stems into survival-type gameplay. you want a good crafting system. you no doubt want good graphics.
the "survival crafting genre" is plagued with a lack of definition and means different things depending on the day of the week. for example, rust vs the the long dark vs stalker gamma vs the wild eight vs ...
my belief you don't care about turn-based, but you don't want a fully turn-based game. like any paradox grand strategy game or tile-based RPG or SP RTS in how you can often just pause the game at will.
just with those games rimworld, pz, ftl, 7dtd, unturned and warframe
and those requirements
* crafting
* semi-turn-based or real-time
* good graphics with realistic animations
* games with an end goal (sadly survival games often don't have end goals)
* challenging combat and gameplay
* deep and realistic game
here's my suggestions.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/305620/The_Long_Dark/
that's basically it. for more you have to lighten up on the graphics requirement and/or go public.
Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic
Rimworld
Brigand: Oaxaca
Deus Ex
Underrail
Baldur's Gate series
Planescape Torment
Here is my suggestions based on that list:
-The Long Dark (no level locking, its just you and the knowledge you have or dont. I would highly recommend personally only watching videos that show general information and not looking up guides, personally looking them up shows where things are and kinda hurts the immersion, but up to you)
https://store.steampowered.com/app/305620/The_Long_Dark/
-Kenshi (again no level locking, expect a lot of jank just fyi but this is, in my humble opinion, the king of freedom)
https://store.steampowered.com/app/233860/Kenshi/
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat (highly recommend the GAMMA mod built on Anomaly, another one of the top truly open games. STALKER 2 is out but base game stalker was always more story then free roam, the stories are fantastic and the free roam still is amazing without mods, but if you want the open world move around and survive on what you have, I still think GAMMA is the kind in that department from what I have seen personally)
https://store.steampowered.com/app/41700/STALKER_Call_of_Pripyat/
-Wayward (in my opinion, just better enough in terms of graphics, might just be acquired taste)
https://store.steampowered.com/app/379210/Wayward/
All of the above are games from, albeit not all survival, what I consider more freedom without the level locking per say. Technically on any of these you could wear the best armor and highest sword without needing any stats or anything. If you are willing to accept SOME restrictions I highly recommend games like:
The Bloodline, The Matchless Kungfu, Necesse, Terraria, and Soulash 2.
These games are amazing in terms of the openness and freedom that I think you are wanting from games.
Finally here are some I have been watching but never played, so take these with a grain of salt, they look good but I have just never tried them personally:
Zed Zone
Fargone
SurrounDead
HumanitZ
Hopefully something on this list peaks your interest. Good luck OP!
Have you tried enabling real-time turn progression in the settings for cdda? Its in the general settings and lets you allow the enemies to take a turn every couple of seconds or every second. If that doesn’t work for you maybe these games below will scratch that itch.
Zed Zone looks real-time like PZ however it has a couple of bad recent reviews. I haven’t bought and played it yet to recommend it one way or the other.

NEO Scavenger is turn-based like CDDA and it has more than just zombies to fight. I have bought and played this one. It is pretty fun. The combat is different though. Its basically you versus a couple of enemies at a time. Firing off guns is still a good way to get the attention of nearby enemies leading to more frequent follow up battles.

though i like CDDA and other similar games like CoQ with the wohle simultaneous turn based gameplay that allows for unmatched complexity...
also i'd like to add "Cogmind" to the list of games
Only Caves of Qud and Dwarf Fortress are on par with CDDA.
If you want truly deep crafting and lore, turnbased is hard to avoid.
