Where do I spend my mania planet coins?

Topic says it I have a good bit of coins and have no clue where to spend them.

You don't need to spend them. They can be used on many Manialinks (just enter "maniapub" in the adress bar on the top in Trackmania)

So honestly why is this not just a direct link in game? Also if you can't spend them on things in game then the preorder on steam was completely and utterly useless as the point of it was that you got some extra coins.

Planets is the currency you can spend on user-generated content. There's a lot that is not really intuitive, that is true, but the more you get familiar with Trackmania/Maniaplanet, the more you'll know :)

You use them for some things:
When renting a server you need a planet deposit for it to be an official ladder server. Anywhere from 20,000 - 100,000 planets depending on what ladder points you want your server at.
Some skins and mods require to be paid for with planets, oftentimes these are very low, like 1, 2, or 5 planets. Sometimes a bit more with full mods.

They aren't completely useless, but i tend to just donate most of them to a favorite server while saving a few thousand for use on any skins I might like.

Last news on that site is 6 months old. Not exactly comfortable spending points or even making an account there.

They have uploads every week and the actual discussions have posts everyday. And they don't let anything upload, they deny work that doesn't meet the quality standard, or move it to the WIP section.

Insulting me for being safe on the internet? That's a new one. I simply do not feel comfortable spending anything on sites that aren't kept up to date.

You don't spend anything on their site and you don't need an account. You download the models or mods, then place them in the Trackmania game folder in the proper location. Then when you are in-game it prompts you, for example, to spend the 5 planets to unlock the model. This is done through manialinks, which a system in the game itself, not third party.

I'm sorry, but Maniapark, and another site Mania Exchange (TMX) have run hand in hand with Maniaplanet titles (Trackmania, Shootmania) for pretty much the lifespan of the game.

I'm not insulting you for trying to be safe, I'm saying that this site is as safe as youtube or something similar. It's basically a staple of the community that surrounds the game.

I have bought and installed the game, I've just not done everything yet.
