I can't see that they play any different.
I don't play the ZEN originals as the physics/table lay outs aren't my thing.
But I have definitely noticed better physics on FX which made the upgrade worthwhile.
For example on FX3 Theatre of Magic trying to hit the trunk shot always has a limited few angles and make the trunk very difficult to hit.
On FX it's much easier to time the trunk and their seems to be more variations of shot depending on timing.
The FX tables do have better lighting also - not a huge deal but it is noticeable.
Their are still some tables like Champion Pub that need improving though. The sound on Champion Pub is too low for example. Zen should make sure all these premium tables are super quality considering they want existing customers of FX3 to upgrade.
I believe they will but hope that more FX customers let ZEN know what exisiting tables still need to be fixed, and SHOULD be fixed on the new FX.
Not wait until the next iteration of FX like FX ULTRA or something then turn around and say "And we have fixed those tables that you have mentioned could be improved" yadda yadda.
Scuse the rant slipped in however this should paint a broader picture for you mate.
Thanks for the v helpful response Powaplaya. Shame that Theatre Of Magic and Champion pub are in the same pack if one table is better but the other has issues.
And i fully agree with the rant lol. I'm totally fine with paying for upgraded tables but imho they should be unambiguously better than in Fx and be part of a more polished package. I live in hope that they'll improve the dodgy UI but not convinced they'll make many changes to the way tables play if they're priorising leaderboard stability as claimed.
These days smart game studios that are in it for the long run know that it's in their best interest to support the community that supports them right?
However, if no-one says anything they aren't going to fix something they don;t think is broken right.
I could notice improvements as I said on theatre for one example but also as a whole on all WILLIAMS tables I tested.
I had NO PLANS initially on buying Williams on FX but after playing them I was sold.
You may have a different opinion but that's mine mate.
And a shill is someone who gains some type of monetary favor from the company for positive comments which I definitely do not.
I abhor people who make comments for cash - aren't so many youtube game videos like this though right? Worst part is I think a lot of the popular streamers don't own up to being payed to promote and just try and make it look like they stumbled across this game and wow, you gotta check it out etc. Makes me pretty upset to be honest.
Snake - have you done a WILLIAMS FX3 to FX comparison mate btw?
I'd have given you a jester but the post is too low-effort, so you only get a 300-point 'hilarious'.
IRL player here, I can confirm the game has changed, a lot moreso on Zen's original designs. Williams is nearly identical. No shilling, especially since I've placed fairly well at a real competition this past weekend.
Where I can perform some of the more advanced flipper tricks on the recreations, I couldn't do otherwise on FX3's originals. FX changes this entirely.
I can tap pass on Empire Strikes Back, a Zen original, and that's saying something. If we end up getting Bally games from the 70's-early 80's, this will be a critical skill to learn.

It's very possible to do, but much like in real life, it's very quick taps on the flipper buttons. I reckon an 8-16ms timing on the presses for tap passes to work properly. Pardon the self-promo, but there isn't any other footage on the web showing this off without using the slow-motion powerup:

Errr... no? You might be confusing it with flick passing / tip passing. The flippers in Pinball Arcade are VERY hard-coded. I don't think it's possible to pull off tap passing there.
