UE-4 Fatal error
Hi. Played a little while, now FX crashes with a Fatal Error of the UE-4 engine. I uninstalled it, rebooted the machine to make sure everything was gone, then spent a considerable amount of time downloading the 33gigs off of Steam.

Saw a post to go into the PinballFX and make sure Windows ran it in Windows 8 compatibility mode, did that. Made sure Windows 10 is updated, updated the 1050ti drivers, turned off NTFS compression, just won't load.

System is an i7 octacore with 24gigs of ram with a 1050ti gtx card 1920x1080 resolution, all softwares updated. Any help appreciated.

Tried running it in administrator mode? I've seen that fix Pin FX not wanting to start during early access

Sorry to hear that, I would change the Windows compatibility settings back to default. Here are some things I would try instead.

Try resetting the PFX graphics configuration files, paste this address into your Windows Explorer address bar and delete the contents, these will be recreated when the game is relaunched: %LOCALAPPDATA%\PinballFX\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor

_

Try reinstalling the PFX common redistributables:
C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2022\VC_redist.x64.exe

C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010\DXSETUP.exe

Note: The above address may vary on your system, but the Steamworks Shared folder is in the same place as your main games folder.

_

Check PFX cabinet mode is disabled, locate this file on your system:
PinballFX\PinballFX\Mods\Cabinet\Settings.ini

When you open it, it should state:
[General]
CabinetEnabled=False

Any crash dumps that you have on file? If you do, I recommend sending at least one set straight to Zen support for diagnosis.

AppData -> Local -> PinballFX -> Saved -> Crashes.

Thanks for the location of the dumps. I just send them to Zen Support. Keep you updated on results.

Are there any specific Error / Line codes when you receive the Fatal Error? Those can sometimes provide clues.

Hi all. Problem solved. Uninstalled all my old C++ installs (had 10+ of them). Made a fresh install and everything works now thanks to Matt's approach. :)

There can and should be quite a few installed (X86/X64/2010-22). They're typically installed during first-time setup but stuff like shuffled installs and Windows updates can disrupt things on occasion.

Windows has a modify/repair function or they can be manually re-installed. Sometimes it's worth checking SteamDB for games, the Depots will reveal what the game is expecting and dependent upon to function.

Hi Guys. I still suffered from crashes. Again Matt was right. You can have multipIe installs. I definitely found the cause of my crashes. It is de USB DAC that i am using for my audio. If I switch that off everything works fine. Probably there is a conflict in my system with the audio via the DAC. Thanks again for sharing ideas and tips.

Hey guys, so I just installed fx yesterday got everything working played a few tables then realized the graphics were not as sharp as fx3. Tried switching a few of the advanced settings to see if that helped . Wrong move… I closed out fx and opened it back up. Im getting that ue4 fatal error and it won’t even load. I took all of Matts advice and tried it all which I appreciate. Unfortunately no luck. In the process I reinstalled steam hoping to reset everything then reinstall fx. No luck there and that also deleted my perfectly working fx3. Which after the reinstall of that I'm having major issues as well. I have sent the crash doc to zen but any other input would be much appreciated

I'm surprised you can run this on a 1050 ti, it's under the minimum reqs.

Copying this here as others may find it a useful solution. If FSR has been enabled and causing a start-up issue this should resolve it.

Open Windows Explorer (Win+E) and paste this into the address bar:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\PinballFX\

Rename the 'Saved' folder to something else then relaunch PFX.

It's slightly overkill but unfortunately FSR is not exposed as a basic config variable which can be easily edited.

I'll make enquires to see if that can be remedied, or at least detail a specific file which players can remove. It may well be 'settings.sav' which is located here:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\PinballFX\Saved\SaveGames\[Profile ID Folder]

Matt, you are a genius. I am back in! remaining the saved file seem to work. That was pretty frustrating. Thank you

I had the same issue. Turns out I needed to update my video drivers.

Finding this old discussion and hoping people are still seeing this. I have a cabinet-based system that works well for Pinball FX3, but is getting the UE-4 error when launching Pinball FX. I upgraded the memory to 16 GB and the graphics card to a GTX 1080 with the latest drivers. At first Pinball FX wouldn't launch because I was I was getting the DX12 error messages, so put -dx11 into the launch settings in steam. That got me beyond the DirectX errors but now I get the UE-4 Fatal Error. At this point I should state that I am running Windows 7. I have WAY to many things already integrated into this build to stray from that if at all possible. I did an in-place upgrade to Windows 10 and actually got Pinball FX working (but not Pinball M yet), but it broke almost all my other virtual pinball stuff. Still trying to work through that on a clone drive, but it looks like I would need to do a complete rebuild of the software and use other tools that currently work in Win 7, but not in Win 10. I would REALLY prefer to stay with Windows 7 for a while longer.

That brings me back to Pinball FX (and Pinball M) on Windows 7 on STEAM. Anybody have that running? Did you have the UE-4 error and get passed it? I tried a few things from this thread already but nothing has helped thus far.
