Ending explanation?

I just finished the game and enjoyed it!!
I'm a bit confused about the ending of the game.
When the player and little girl reunite while she is praying to Mother Buddha in the tunnel, the little girl smiles at Mother Buddha. What does it mean? Did she trick the player?

Also some papers mention human trafficking ring exposed. Does that mean Mia died? Or is it just how the Chen village brought children to sacrifice to Mother Buddha?
