> ⚠️ **Disclaimer**
This is an unofficial fan-made guide created by a player. I am **not the developer** of any of the tools involved (such as BepInEx or XUnity.AutoTranslator).
I take **no responsibility** for any issues or damage to your game installation, performance, operating system, or hardware.
**Use at your own risk**, and always back up your files before installing mods or third-party tools.
This guide is intended **only for people who already own the game**, or choose to buy it **independently of this guide**.
**Do not buy the game expecting this method to work.** I take no responsibility if it works now, stops working later, or never works for your setup at all.
### 🛑 Things to keep in mind:
- Future updates to the game may **break compatibility** with this translation method.
- The tools used (e.g., AutoTranslator) rely on **third-party services like Google Translate**, which may change or become restricted.
- If the developers of AutoTranslator **remove their repositories** or change formats, this method may no longer work.
- In theory, someone could build a full **translation dictionary** or custom text pack — but that would require a large amount of work, and is unlikely to happen anytime soon.
This solution is meant as a **temporary workaround** using available tools — not an official translation or permanent patch.

## 🖥️ System Compatibility
This method relies on [**BepInEx**](https://github.com/BepInEx/BepInEx), a modding framework for Unity and .NET-based games.
Make sure you're using a **supported platform and version**:
### ✅ BepInEx Compatibility Summary:
| Game Type | Windows | macOS | Linux | ARM |
|---------------|---------|-------|--------|-----|
| Unity Mono | ✔️ Stable | ✔️ Mono | ✔️ Mono | ❌ |
| Unity IL2CPP | ✔️ (experimental) | ❌ | ✔️ (advanced setup) | ❌ |
| .NET / XNA | ✔️ | Mono | Mono | ❌ |
- ✔️ **Windows 64-bit (x64)** is the most supported and recommended platform.
There are other system architectures like older 32-bit Windows (x86), and platforms such as ARM-based Windows, macOS, and Linux. While some unofficial workarounds may exist (e.g., Wine or Proton), these are **not supported** in this guide.
🔗 More detailed compatibility info: https://bepis.io/unity.html

🔗 **BepInEx Official Discord Server**:

*(This is the official server as of writing. If the link stops working, check their GitHub for the latest invite: https://github.com/BepInEx/BepInEx)*
---
✅ Make sure you download the correct version of BepInEx:
- **x64 (64-bit)** – for most modern Windows systems
- **x86 (32-bit)** – available for older systems on the releases page
For advanced users, there may be unofficial solutions on other architectures using apps like Wine or emulators — but these are definitely not supported in this guide.
❌ Do **not** attempt this on ARM devices or unsupported OSes unless you know what you're doing. But usually, people on ARM are IT professionals 😄

## 📁 Step-by-Step Installation
### 🗂️ 1. Locate the Game Folder
Steam → Right-click Ascension → Manage → Browse Local Files
---
### 📥 2. Install BepInEx
- Download `BepInEx_x64_5.4.xx.zip`
- Extract everything into the Ascension folder
You should now see:
```
Ascension\
├── BepInEx\
├── doorstop_config.ini
├── winhttp.dll
└── Ascension.exe
```
---
### 🌐 3. Install AutoTranslator
- Download `XUnity.AutoTranslator-BepInEx-*.zip`
- Extract into the Ascension folder (merge into BepInEx)
You should now see:
```
BepInEx\
├── config\
│ └── AutoTranslatorConfig.ini
├── plugins\
│ ├── XUnity.AutoTranslator\
│ ├── XUnity.ResourceRedirector\
│ └── README (AutoTranslator).md
└── Translation\
```
This is **correct for recent versions**.
Older versions may instead look like:
```
BepInEx\
├── config\
│ └── AutoTranslatorConfig.ini
├── plugins\
│ └── XUnity.AutoTranslator.dll
└── Translation\
```
---
### 🧠 4. (Optional) Run IL2CPP Patcher
(I personally use `BepInEx.Patcher.exe`)
- Extract patcher from: https://github.com/ManlyMarco/BepInEx.IL2CPP.Patcher/releases
- Run `BepInEx.Patcher.exe` in the game folder
---
### 🛠️ 5. Configure Translator
- Launch the game once, then close it
- Open:
`BepInEx\config\AutoTranslatorConfig.ini`
- Edit:
```
[General]
FromLanguage=zh
Language=en
```
✅ Important: `FromLanguage` must be `zh` (default is usually `jp`)
If not mistaken, `zh` is Simplified Chinese, and `jp` is Japanese.
`jp` actually works surprisingly well for a language it wasn't meant for — but `zh` is still the best fit for this game.
---
### 🖥️ (Optional) Enable Console
(*I don’t use this, but others may find it helpful*)
```
[Debug]
EnableConsole=True
```
Shows a black debug window with translation logs.
---
### 🚀 6. Launch the Game
- Start **Ascension** through Steam
- Translations will appear automatically from Chinese to English
- First-time lines may take longer, but they are cached afterward
---
## 🔤 Optional: Fix Font Issues
(*I don’t do this, but you can*)
1. Place `arial.ttf` into:
`BepInEx\Translation\en\Fonts\arial.ttf`
2. Edit config:
```
[Behaviour]
OverrideFont=arial.ttf
OverrideFontSize=20
```
---
## 📂 Where Translations Are Saved
```
BepInEx\Translation\en\Text\_AutoGeneratedTranslations.txt
```
You can open and edit this file to improve translations or force consistent naming.
---
## 💡 Translation Behavior, Delays & Tips
- 🕒 **Expect a Small Delay**
Translations are fetched live from services like Google Translate. A small delay (typically 0.5–3 seconds) is normal the first time a line appears.
In some cases, it may even take **several minutes**, depending on:
- Internet connection quality
- The size or complexity of the text
- How often that line has been used or seen
- Translation service load or rate-limiting
Once translated, lines are cached and will appear instantly next time.
- 🔁 **Not Everything is Always Translated the Same**
- Names, titles, and terms may vary based on context
- A name might sometimes become a phrase or vice versa
- Grammar may change in long or structured dialogue
- 🧠 **Manual Control & Overrides**
You can take control using the following files:
| File | Purpose |
|------|---------|
| `_AutoGeneratedTranslations.txt` | Stores cached translations |
| `_Substitutions.txt` | Replaces certain phrases with preferred terms |
| `_Preprocessors.txt` | Changes input before sending it for translation |
| `_Postprocessors.txt` | Alters output before it appears in-game |
These are found in:
```
BepInEx\Translation\en\Text\
```
- 🎮 **Optional Hotkeys**
Some setups allow manual translation updates via `Ctrl + Insert`.
Check `AutoTranslatorConfig.ini` for input settings.
- 📘 **Learn More:**
Open this file:
```
BepInEx\plugins\README (AutoTranslator).md
```
It contains everything about modes, APIs, and advanced options.

### 🛠️ Expert Tip: Fine-Tuning `AutoTranslatorConfig.ini`
The file `AutoTranslatorConfig.ini` includes **many advanced options** for users who want to improve translation speed, consistency, or appearance — especially helpful in games with complex text structures or UI.
These settings allow you to:
- ⚡ Increase translation speed
- 🧠 Keep long phrases together for better meaning
- 🔠 Fix font issues or improve UI readability
- 🎯 Enable support for specific UI systems like TextMeshPro or NGUI
Here are some key settings and what they do:
| Setting | Description |
|--------|-------------|
| `MaxCharactersPerTranslation=200` | Controls the size of text chunks sent to the translator; lower for faster but less accurate, higher for full sentences |
| `ForceSplitTextAfterCharacters=0` | Forces splits after X characters; leave as 0 for full lines |
| `EnableBatching=True` | Groups multiple small lines into one request — speeds up processing |
| `UseStaticTranslations=True` | Uses cached results when possible for faster loading |
| `OverrideFont=arial.ttf` | Forces a specific font (good if characters aren't rendering) |
| `OverrideFontSize=20` | Adjusts font size for visibility |
| `EnableTextMeshPro=True` | Enables translation support for TextMeshPro (used by many Unity games) |
| `EnableUGUI=True` | Enables Unity GUI text (common in menus, HUDs) |
| `EnableNGUI=True` | Enables NGUI support (used in some older or mobile-style games) |
📁 Location:
```
BepInEx\config\AutoTranslatorConfig.ini
```
📘 Full details are also documented in:
```
BepInEx\plugins\README (AutoTranslator).md
```
⚠️ *Only modify these if you're confident — incorrect settings can break translation or cause performance issues.*
---
📝 Final tip: *(The following is too bothersome for me, and I never do it — but you can if you want full control.)*
If you want character names or sect titles to stay consistent, edit them directly in `_AutoGeneratedTranslations.txt` or define them in `_Substitutions.txt`.
Hi bro. Thanks for your helping.
I'm having an issue where the translated text overlaps or stacks on top of itself. Is there any way to fix this, bro?
