Later on I plan to build a biodome for multiplayer "Safety" lol
I suppose an edit to be helpful might not hurt; Medium and Large units move slow but are capable of carrying much higher main weight loads. This might not mean a ton to a high level small five star unit, but a majority of your parts are likely not maxed out.
The distance in which you can move a medium or large part makes some builds seem so much bigger than they actually are, and are much better at protecting their vital components.
AoE effects are pretty rare, but a decent amount of Small units cannot distance their legs or torso far enough from the splash to avoid major damage if the enemy shoots you, usually resulting in massive damage or being immediately destroyed.
A heavily guarded medium mech however can typically take those hits like a champ along with having a much higher threshold for HP on parts once leveled.
If you need to, place a medium and large mech in your main 5 so they passively level up during runs, and check back with them to see how strong they get.
The downside is that you need the DLC to actually farm M parts before beating the game.
Also you can walk things to death
