Well this is disappointing
I know they never said it was like EDF or anything but this game isn't good. The controls have that same EDF stiffness and it sort of looks like EDF, albeit closer to the Vita versions than an actual modern game.

The missions are dull. Like, just so powerfully dull. There's no sense of spectacle. When I first played EDF2017, that game wowed me within the first minute. Just seeing all those ants and that lovely destruction. That's not the case here. This feels almost like you're playing a bad PS2 Transformers game or something. Worse maybe.

The customisation gives you a lot of options but honestly it all feels kind of pointless.

Only a quarter of the way in so it might improve over the next 30 missions but I'm guessing it wont.

It's a mech build-sim with some game play, it's made with the player building some random eldritch horror and run through everything on the map without much hindrance in mind. It just aren't made for a character action style of game play.

What did you expect? The game and the marketing have been very open about what this game is.

Very open?

They left out the bit where they told you the gameplay was thin, repetitive, underwhelming and dull.

I was expecting something as good as (or close to as good as) EDF from the guys who apparently made EDF.

But, leaving all that behind, if the game is as the guy describes above just meant to be a sandbox for creating crazy looking mechs, even that aspect isn't done all that well.

When you get new bits from enemies, there's no sense of hunting for a part that you want or seeing something on an enemy G-Mech and thinking 'ooh, that'll look great on my mech.'

There's no real connection between what you see and then what you get to build with.

And the graphics are piss poor too.

Yeah ! Nice ! Let's take hours to build some awesome mech to use it in some dull, short and repetitive mission ! YAY !

This is exactly what I feared when the game trailer only briefly showed the actual enemies and fighting. Looked like the devs were hiding something. Further confirmed by watching streams yesterday. Gameplay looks piss poor compared to EDF. The main problem was the enemy variety and how boring their attacks seemed. Perhaps things get more interesting at the highest difficulty levels though.

First time playng a D3 / Tamsoft game? EDF is pretty much the exception when it comes to their games.

Thing is, the guys who made this, didn't make EDF. This is the PUBLISHER of EDF and from what I've seen, it's the same design as iron rain (which isn't a bad thing.)

So you never watched any of the videos they released then. Cry more. This is your fault for thinking this game was something it was NEVER marketed as.

Looking at footage of people playing the PS5(?) demo, it definitely struck me as a pretty simplistic game where the clear focus is on building mechanized abominations. The combat itself definitely appears to be basic and repetitive (melee seems disappointingly limited).

I'm still interested in getting it, however.

I really don't get the complaint though? EDF in general is a straight forward game. There's no tactics, just look and blast. Enemies with guns and or ranged weapons stop to fire at you, or advance with shotguns/plasma weapons, whilst fast enemies advance on you. I get people wanted EDF6 with this, but I don't see anything it's doing as inherently bad. And we also don't know what the hardest mode offers yet, could be swamping numbers, could be bulky bots.

EDF players when you paste the same gameplay over some other game.

Listen a lot of people would probably think your favorite edf game was boring and not worth the time to play it. There are people that enjoy dynasty warriors. People enjoy tetris. You like edf and are blind to how simple and boring the gameplay is if you break it down.

Watching someone play on twitch and the game seems fine to me. Enemies advance on your position with different types of weapons. Your mech has part damage and when a specific part (Legs) for instance goes and you have no mobility, the mech gets destroyed and you get to call in a reserve mech. Or you can run around on the ground like classic EDF but be absolutely out gunned.
While the gameplay is admittedly a bit dull, being able to create virtually anything you can imagine then go around shooting stuff with it is honestly quite fun if you are more the creative sort.

So I am having quite a bit of fun, but can understand how someone wanting more of in depth gameplay experience might be disappointed.

Fair points.

Yeah... this.
I mean, I could type a third time why I was disappointed with the demo, but you kinda nailed it.
The gameplay, enemies and mission-variation is way worse compared to "EDF".
The customisation is kinda decent and you can build fun stuff... but when it comes to the gameplay, the game just fails so hard.
