Not god games, but I feel more like a god in those games
From dust deserves to be mentioned. Amazing fluid mechanics and graphics.
Startopia is a Management game (reminds me on ThemePark).
Only the farming has some kind of "god aspect".
Its a good one - but not close to a god-sim :)
Torpico 4 also is a manager like Anno (good one)
From Dust - got that - nice fun tech demo! how i forgot about that :D
But i would put it allmost into a puzzle-god-game, since u dont have to care of ur humans much and more how to solve the paths... ;)
Hm. but it is a hint to old for me,
I like games like DK2 the most. Those games never get old :)
Charm doesnt age...
That is true, but dealing with the environment and nature feels very godlike.
Reus is another "god puzzle game", though even more puzzle like.
Dwarf fortress shares many aspects with Dungeon Keeper, it's fantastic if you can deal with the limited graphics and interface.
Its like "that hill and that tree and lets do that stone....... oh and somewhere are humans.. who cares..."
In that regard BW1 nailed it quiet good - u had to watch ur ppl and the other god aspects as well (mana, enemy, quests...)
-----------------
Reuss yeah i played that. Not quiet what i exspected.
It was a little to ......... hmmm ye ... stacking up build orders.........
to bad. It has some really nice artwork and mechanics going ;(
Hope there will come more games in the future in that genre..
since the market is overcrowded with shooters and stuff like that (so there is no need for even more of those <.<)
------------------
Dwarfs - i seen that on TotalBiscuit...... but its not close to DK.
Yes u dig tunnels... but thats about it.
If u would strip DK down to "just having the IMPS" ... u would be right :|
I would put it closer to be "mine sweeper" than DK *g*
-beeing able to change ur inveroment
-beeing able to control life and death
-having to care for ur minions
-using unique powers (magic)
-u have to be praised in some regard
-having less limitations as the gameplay can possible allow
-having a goal thats something ... how to say... not physical....
like u dont want be rich... u want have >power<...
As mentioned BW nailed that back in its time pretty good.
Pop3 as well... DK2 ... also ...
Those 3 are probably best ones that come close to that and make a hell lot of fun.
But ~> i can see for other ppl a god game is made out by other therms :)
You build traps like in DK, you build sleep rooms, there are frequently sieges, ambushes and mighty beasts that try to invade your fortress.
Comparable to the waves of heroes you had to fight in DK.

I certain its the most complex game ever.
Yes, B&W was a great game. I really loved it.
DK didnt had that for sure. U had ur gold and thats about it. Pretty simplistic.
Well DK+MC in a blender? Might that hits the note?
Or Terraria the RTS :]
Uff. I love video games... <3
ps. for BW i had a Creature Pack..... (+3 Creatures from a Gamestar CD)
... and i used the WOLF! he was best... besides the
KICK BOXING COW i used bevor xD (KUNG POW< movie) hahah
How could u not love the game - let alone for THAT line...
just try to explain to some one that has no idea of the game
- how u managed to get a 30meter big cow - that s used to kick box giant lions and apes..... and knows how to create fire bolts and lightning! xDDDD
Being able to change the environment is nice, but kinda pointless if you can only do it in pre-designed locations. Much like how the original populous was, you could raise or lower the land in specific area's only.
So for me, a godgame is having these abilities - and having your decisions with them be substantial.
In a way, a godgame is the ultimate sandbox. While still having a purpose gamewise.
You get a bunch of tools at your disposal and a bunch of things in the game that act on their own. And it is up to you whether you are good or bad, sustaining or consuming.
Yes, add a bit of the sims, lord of the rings and huge amount of gore and you have a pretty solid description of Dwarf Fortress.
Just to give slight glance on how complex this game is:
It simulates organs, bones, fingers, skin. Creatures can loose limbs forever, their wounds can get infected if they won't get cleaned. Wounds have realistic affects on them, for example they can go blind which leads to them running into walls or fall from cliffs...
On a hit, the density, rigidity and elasticity of the material from weapon and armor is realistically simulated, as well as the type of impact and the pressure behind it.
And thats just the combat system, world and history generation goes far beyond that.
Well i think Pop3 did it right in that regard (probably best till today<.<)....
Since u can raise + lower the ground from mountain - to water level (later in the game)
u can use magic when ever u feel like - u have to care for ur minions - and they are still rly usefull.............. and in the end - u become all mighty O_o
BW1 promised terraforming but "our good friend PETER" stripped it of many of those features since he promised more than he could ever handle :(
BUT
u still have to take in concern that u still play a game. There have to be some limits.....
in POP3 it was the recharge of the spells... or u just would drown anyone in minutes (or get drowned) - who ever strikes first.
So having >some< limits aint that bad- if it would break the gameplay.
Its the right mix of all those components that make a good god game :)
Even if u left out 1 u still can compensate with having the others put in place stronger......
*hard to explain*
ps. one of my favorit aspects (and kinda important to me) is the "beeing praised" thing.
Pop3... nailed it best - when ppl throw them self on the knees if u walk by!
that was SO AWESOME!!!!! it gave u a really huge power feeling
couse unlike BW u didnt had to do anything for it... in BW u had to make them praise u ............ but here...... everyone near just knows ur >GOD!< and aknowledge it! :)
