Shiny rocks? What are they?

I just spent about 10 or 15 minutes trying to google what the shiny rock vein is for... found nothing. I thought the miners would mine this for ore... I was wrong. They do mine it, and it does go away, but it doesn't seem to add to any resource or anything. What's the deal?

They're there to lead you to a sticker shrine. Mining them also gives you gems (which currently have no purpose outside the mobile version).

If you follow the shiny rocks you'll have to spend tens of thousands moving the landscape to get to shrines (there's three in the game at the moment I believe), which only give you 8 stickers (the shrines take several hours to build). So it's up to you, personally I'd say ignore them.
