Broken Age
Sequel?
Hey, is anyone else really wanting another game to continue this story? I know I do! The end is abrupt and it kind of leaves you hanging like movies and shows leave you until next episode. What I'm saying is they have a great opportunity to create another sequel to the game. That would be AMAZING, COOL AND AWSOME.

Ehh, the story's pretty much over I'd say. They show a ton of epilogue scenes in stills during the credits implying everything pretty much sorted itself out (however implausible that may be, seeing as there's nothing to stop the Thrush bombing to bits everyone who tries to use the bridge), and that a year later everyone's just celebrating like a bunch of best buds in spit of all the past human sacrifices. Way I see it the writers aren't deliberately leaving a bunch of sequel hooks, they just failed to provide a full, satisfying ending that tied everything up properly.

I also don't really trust the writers to show us anything interesting in a sequel. Seeing Shay adjust to the outside world could have been interesting, but he doesn't really show any wonder at the outside world or trouble getting used to it, so all those revelations fall flat. Likewise Vella pretty much just shrugs when she finds herself in a high-tech battleship and says "let's just keep smashing things like I was before". She doesn't struggle to adjust to the idea of actually having a future and needing to decide what to do with her life now she's not going to be sacrificed, nor do we see the relationship between her and her family strained after they basically sent her to her death. Neither has much in the way of emotional reaction to events or character development, so I'm not that interested in spending more time with them.
I would like to see a Broken Age 2 down the line. There are some plot lines that were unreolved. The world is also interesting and doing new locations in it would be nice to see.
I loved the characters and the world the story inhabited, but I think the characters accomplished their goals and there's no need for a sequel, the slideshow during the credits shows that it all turned out OK once a bridge of knowledge and understanding was opened between Loruna and the outside world, which is a nice message I wouldn't want to be spoiled by introducing another conflict in a sequel.
I definitely hope that Double Fine use the engine they made for Broken Age to make another adventure game soon, because the animation and camera-work in Broken Age is stunning, and I think they really nailed the humour, heart, and puzzle design; it's rather hard going back to other adventure games after being spoiled by Broken Age.

I was hoping to see some Vella-Shay Romance. It's a shame they never even got to have a conversation.
IKR! The last scene got my hopes up so much..
It'd probably require another Kickstarter, so I guess it's up to Doublefine first and then gaming community.
Wonder if they'd get as much money if they did it again. I hear reviewers were pretty harsh on Act 2, justifiably in my opinion.

Considering the massive amount they got donated, it think it was very lazy of them to make people wait the better part of a year for Act 2 and then have it mainly be rehashes of the same locations. That might have cost them some trust in the gaming community.
I doubt it was laziness. Whatever you think of Act 2, I think the documentary shows they had the best of intentions and worked very hard.
Maybe you're right, I haven't seen the documentary. Still I do think other developers have accomplished a lot more with a lot less resources, so I'd be wary of buying from them again.

Thing is i really wanted to like the story but it just felt really insubstantial. There was room for some really interesting interactions (e.g. seeing Shay and Vella reconcile with the families that smothered and sacrificed them, and the families' remorse) but we never get to even see them come together. Shay and Vella also seem to barely react to seeing the outside world for the first time or discovering the sci-fi interior of Mog Chothra and just say "let's go back to the mom who smothered me and never interacted in person/let's just kill it again". We spend half the game trying to get characters together, but never seee any actual meaningful interaction.

Characters don't really shape the story, being mainly plot devices there to give items or get in the way (look at how half the final puzzle is just getting two allies out of the sodding way without actually asking them) and even the main characters don't seem to change that much. Shay's first impulse on seeing the outside world is going right back to save him Mum (a really abrupt turnaround considering how little affection he's shown so far) and apart from some awkwardness in conversations he doesn't seem to feel much crushong guilt or remorse for getting a bunch of chuildren abducted by his own ignorance. Vella is also kinda one-note, being basically "I anna find/kill Mog Chothra" for the whole game.

Doesn't the documentary show how Schafer had no time to write because his job is also to lead a multiteam developer and publisher? Rather than laziness one can see a lack of attention. I can understand that it was Tim's personal project and probably the last shot he ever got at designing a game rather than leading a company, but it would have been better for the result, had he given the second act to some other designer to finish it with the necessary commitment a project like that demands.

I think you might be right there. Although the dialog can be very funny, I got the impression that Tim wrote all of it. I wonder whether games like this could learn something from the world of TV where they have a show-runner and writer's room collaborating on plot and dialogue.
