Seeing as so many of you are having trouble with it.
In order to get the hexigal to play the harp you need to first look at the book in the forefront of the center room down the ladder. These symbols look like gibberish now but they are the instructions for the hexigal - so write them down exactly as they look. Each symbol represents a single node on the back of your hexigal. The problem is: you aren't told which symbol is associated with each node - so you need to figure that out. That's the real puzzle here. There are three pairs of symbols which represent each of the three wires you must place. The top pair of symbols are the instructions on how to place the first wire, the middle pair are the instructions for the second wire, and the bottom pair are the instructions for the third wire. The first symbol in a pair represents the starting node, and the second symbol in a pair represents the ending node for that wire. Thankfully, if you place Shay's hexigal in the charging station in the upper room, the machine will tell you the configuration of wires you are currently using for Shay's Hexigal in the same format as the instructions given in the book. If you randomly wire Shay's hexigal, and take note of which nodes you used as well as the order you placed the wires, you can figure out which symbol is associated with each node. Once you've figured that out, you can wire the hexigal according to the instructions you found in the book.
In order to find the configuration to make the Hexigal play the drums you need to switch to Vella and look at the scorch marks on the back of her Hexigal (if you've gotten far enough in her story). Her hexigal was the one swinging that flashlight earlier - which is the same configuration we'll be using to make Shay's hexigal swing that mallet. Thankfully, there are no symbols here, but it's still a pain in the ass. The starting and ending nodes, as well as the order you place the wires still matter though.
When looking at the back of Vella's hexigal you can tell which are the starting nodes because the scorch-mark at each starting node is thicker than the scorch-mark at the ending node. The scorch-marks don't tell you the order you need to place the wires though. You figure that out by experimentation.
There are only a total of 6 possible ways you can wire three wires, so it shouldn't take long. If you carefully take notes for each attempt, this will all be easy, if not, this won't be.
