That ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ knot puzzle

I have no idea what the game wants me to do or if I'm even supposed to solve this "puzzle" right now. Has anybody solved this? I literally have no idea what I should do, what my actions do or how I could possibly do this.

Don't expect the "knot expert" to make it easier, though. "It looks like a headache wearing a belt" my arse.

I could be wrong, but I think some of the knots/solutions are bugged. I kept fiddling until I had a knot that looks like the lady, so that I knew I was getting the right set of instructions, but they never worked.

I gave up on that plan after like an hour and just tried whatever knot it gave me next, and got it immediately. So who knows?

I believe it doesn't matter at all what the knot looked like to begin with.

All you have to do is leave it, go talk to the knot expert, get something to write with, return to the knot expert, and then go and try the knot.

At this point it will show you the knot expert's instructions (1, 2, and 3). You just have to describe the picture in the instruction. For example, if it shows a hand pointing at the bottom of a loop with little loops on the left, you say "Tickle the foot". If it shows a bunch of knots in the shape of two stars but with one extra knot on the right, say "Poke the clown in the eye" and so on.

it does not matter how the knot looks like. What important is follow the scribble instruction.
what hard is that some scribble looks too weird to describe.

keep trying until you are lucky with easy to understand scribbles.

Some are easier to get than others. Pull the flies wings, make the boat go under the bridge and make the baby play patty cake are all easy to understand.

The problem I seem to run into is that none of the responses I can pick actually match up with what the instructions are telling me. I've got the knot that looks like a lazy pole vaulter at the moment for example. The first instruction looks like a hand pointing down, but none of the dialogue options match up with that instruction.

Ah, I think I get it now. For some obscure reason the game won't let you finish it on the first try. You need to go back to Carol a couple of times and keep getting new instructions. After a few goes it will work. Prior to that, even if you pick the correct choice it still won't work.

It HAS to be bugged, because on several occasions, I was given no valid choice. To test this, I actually saved right at that point. I took note of the knot. I went to Car'l, I gave a very clear description of the knot (the elephant trying to eat its own trunk), went back to F'ther, and sure enough, none of the four choices offered fitted with the chart as written down (#1 for instance, was poking the clown in the eye, but none of the four choices were that), which forced me into a mistake. I reloaded the savegame, only to find that the four choices were different. After a couple of fails and reloads, I was finally offered a right choice for #1, and could proceed.

Yeah same here. The elephant thing specifically didn't work for me. It's a really bad puzzle. I guess there is the "I'll go and find a knot expert" answer but I figured this was just a colorful way of saying "I'll come back a bit later" and there was some sort of logic to this puzzle. Nope.

It's not bugged - it works fine. It's just a typical Lucasarts type interpretation puzzle.
1) You're not supposed to solve it the first time around, that's correct, because you need a reference ("the knot expert" so as not to spoil this - it's on the other side of the "map")

2) The first time you get a reference, you'll still not be able to solve the puzzle as there are multiple steps and you can see that some of them have no "instructions" associated with them

3) Each time you fail, you will have the option to tell F'ther to hang on while you get more advice and this option will "teleport" you to the "knot expert" - make sure you have seen the latest knot before you go (don't skip the sequences) and while they're all bizarre, they're actually not impossible to match.

4) you will "teleport" back once you have a new instruction and this will be added to your database. you will need at least as many as there are steps to complete this but often you will need a few more just to make sure you have all the appropriate ones. just make sure you correctly describe them in order once you can see that you have a "solution" (i.e. a picture with hands on it for each step rather than just a picture of the knot) for each step.

This will definitely work, there's no bug here. It's still a fairly irritating puzzle if you break out of the "teleport" conversation loop, which can happen easily and will mean you need to run all the way across the map and back to restart the loop.

Thanks. what about the airlock tube? it says to connect top and bottom on the left, but i can't reach the platform after climbing up.

You need to Climb up and the cut the tube, you will fall on the plattform and then on the ground. At least if you are were I think you are
