Game never gives me the knot puzzle?

So I've been playing this game for a while now, and as I'm rubbish at games I need regular help from walkthroughs to get the puzzles right. Multiple walkthroughs tell me F'ther will ask Shay for help with a knot on the ladder to Harm'ny, but nothing happens when I climb on the ladder and weigh Harm'ny down? Also when I talk to Carol she never mentions she's a knot expert? Only tells me she's trying to make a hook out of wire?? What do I do?

When you're on the ladder, click on the tied-up cloud Harm'ny is on to get some comments about it, and click on F'ther to ask him if he can undo the knot. Once F'ther has inspected what kind of knot it is, you can ask Carol for help.

Thansk for answering! Though that's exactly the problem, nothing happens when I click on the cloud or any of the rope or Harm'ny or F'ther, Shay only gets back off the ladder again..
Talking to F'ther doesn't help either, Shay only tells him he'll leave him alone.

Same with the pencil that I'm supposed to receive from Alex after bringing him the metal Hexi-something for the ship, I can't even ask for it, only ask what else he needs to repair the ship. And nothing I have to give to Carol will make her give me the wire or mention knots.

Any ideas?

You won't be able to ask Alex for the pencil until Carol asks you to get one, and that won't be until after you've got a knot to ask her about. What's happening to you sounds like a glitch I've read someone else experience but which I've never seen. For that person it suddenly ended up working just fine, I hope it also does for you. The problem is that the big person stands in front of the knot, when you climb the ladder and F`ther comes down. To start the coversation about the knot, you must now klick between the legs of the big person (where the knot is behind).
Took a while (and many klicks) to find out, but then you will get the conversation about the knot and can go on with the game.
