Sorry for the delay. I'll jump into my Linux setup and try to figure out what's causing this.
I'd like to add to this conversation too:
Fedora Workstation 26 x86_64.
The SDL2 missing problem was fixed once I installed SDL2-Devel.i686
However, from the play button in Steam as well as from the terminal via "./postal1" I get a series of messages about invalid paths mentioning:
CD, HD, VD, Sound, Game, Hoods.
The messages said I could change the directories in the POSTAL.INI file but so far my changes have not worked.
I tried pointing to the "res" folder where I found Hoods and Games but nothing.
Edit 1: Error codes A108, A105
Windows 10 Crash on startup
I deleted the POSTAL.INI file in "/home/<username>/.local/share/PostalPlus"
The game would not run still, so out of curiosity I opened it and it showed Ctrl-M characters all over the place with emacs (^M).
With a quick search on StackOverflow, a quick way to get rid of them in emacs is:
M-x replace-string C-q C-m RET RET
How to remove Ctrl-M in emacs [stackoverflow.com]
After this the game ran but I couldn't load the levels. I closed and opened again the ini file to find that it generated again the Ctrl-M characters.
So I again removed them and this time I could play.
Tried uninstalling and re-installing, and it did not fix.
Going to try the "remove the [^M]" dos linefeed characters, from above instructions..... [update] Well, it looks like the update changed the file so the [^M] dos linefeeds are already removed. I'm stumped!
Is it relevant that my directory is in ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/POSTAL1 and not PostalPlus ? ? Also, I noticed that the "steam_appid.txt" file also has a [^M] dos linefeed even after the update.
Did you checked the errors launching it via console?
Same libSDL error when running "postal1" from the command line.
For what it is worth, libSDL is installed:
libsdl2-2.0-0 is already the newest version (2.0.4+dfsg1-2ubuntu2).
If someone wants to tell me what the LD_LIBRARY_PATH command is for redirecting postal1 to the local libraries, I will run it, but I can never think of where that directory is located.
Thanks so much for your help. I know my purchase was just two-bits, but I was really looking forward to playing again. You guys are awesome.
Enjoy the game!
That's awesome. The one annoying thing about Steam is that it doesn't remove everything, it always leaves some leftovers which can cause issues when you reinstall the game.
im playing postal plus rn
