Do I need a pre-existing account to connect?
I've just downloaded this game on steam and I've never played it before. Currently it's been saying it's unable to connect so I can't play, I'll try again at a different time incase it's a server side issue but I'm wondering if I need to already have a Sky account on mobile before I can play on steam? If the problem resolves itself I'll just mark this discussion as answered

Please check your firewall and antivirus or windows defender and make sure the game isn't blocked from accessing the internet.

will do thank you!
Edit: Checked and sky was in the allowed apps so I don't think that was the problem, but thanks anyways!

If there's nothing blocking the game, then you might want to check your Ping/Latency from your PC to Los Angeles (where the game is located). You can do that by going to Speedtest.net and select a server in LA (any will do) and start the test. After that check the Ping value in the report.

If below 60, you have great connection to LA, if anywhere below 150 your internet connection to the game is still considered good. Above 200 means you might be getting a lot of lag issues in the game, above 300 you might freeze or disconnect in the game, above 500 means you might not be able to connect to the game server at all.

Its a sever issue not a ping issue.

Considering I'm only a state away from LA I also don't think it's a ping issue, but thank you! I'm going to reinstall the game to see if that does anything though I don't it- I'll probably just have to keep trying

Then the game couldn't connect to the internet is still going to be one of the highest possibility here then. Are you sure you've checked all your antivirus apps? Sometimes they need you to add the .exe file into the allowed list before they let you through, and for the firewall case, app can end up in the block list easily if when it asked for permission the 1st time and you accidentally clicked no...

Can't say that bad install won't effect it though, seen cases that the game can't create folder and ended up with similar problem, you can try run both Steam.exe and Sky.exe as admin to avoid those permission problem imo.

also if you have a VPN, check that one too , or see if turning it off temporary solves it.

Thank you, but I have no antivirus apps and no vpn, I've verified the files through the properties tab after the reinstall, and on windows firewall it's listed as allowed on all networks. I'm a bit at a loss for what the issue could be but I appreciate the help nonetheless.
