The SoM Camera also saves to your Steam's Screenshot folder now.

They did, and it worked properly for a while, even the camera button was there. I jumped into the game just in time to complete SoM and experience how it's supposed to function.
But after some update in December all methods of making screenshots in-game broke for users with nVidia GPUs. On their machines (incl. mine) the camera button is gone, F12 does nothing, SoM camera doesn't capture anything and someone here in the forums reported that some screenshot emote (is this a thing?) made the game crash entirely.
The devs already know about this issue.
I see, mine is AMD here so that's why i am not affected i guess. Nvidia.. probably a good news... they might be trying to implement Ansel into the game? If that's the case it's great news for snapshot enthusiast. Anyone tried Alt+F2 to screenshot instead?
Worth noting that the camera button (the one shown in the mobile version) isn't there for AMD users too, but it's there in the SoM Camera, and it saves to Steam Screenshot when we click that button.
edit: Just checked and seemed like it happened outside this game as well, and someone claimed:
[1] If HBO or Netflix is running in the background, it blocks you from taking screenshots.
[2] Turning "In Game Overlay" on your Geforce Experience Setting from On to Off, then back to On again fixed the issue.
[3] Changing Steam's Screenshot hotkey to something other than F12.
I won't say it's going to 100% fix the issue, but you guys could give it a try and see if that works.
That only leaves the hotkey.
Setting it to F10, Insert and tilde (~, left of 1) has no effect.
I've used Ansel before in Witcher 3 and Deep Rock Galactic, and I don't really feel it'd bring a lot into the game, since SoM camera has most of its features already without requiring an nVidia GPU. Minimal gains for significant effort, considering the current season shipped with game-breaking bugs I'd imagine they're focused on tasks with more ROTI right now 😁
[1] Game-Specific Integration:
Sky might utilize a unique in-game function for screenshots alongside the F12 key, potentially leading to conflicts with Nvidia's overlay or drivers. They might be trying to implement something like a built-in Ansel to the game (like the one in The Witness)? And a good reason for doing that, so the game may end up in the Geforce supported game list[www.nvidia.com] to get more exposure and spotlight?
[2] Driver Optimization:
Nvidia drivers might prioritize specific games or functionalities, leading to unexpected behavior with others like Sky. This is the most unlikely reason, but still, can't exempt it from possible cause, because nvidia are known to have such settings by default and that could lead to problems in some games.
[3] Software Conflicts:
Interactions between different game launchers, overlays, and background processes could be causing unintended F12 interference. Possible for overlay conflicts, like Nvidia Share or GFE Overlay or Steam overlay.
Also, seems like Alt+F1 snapshot works for Nvidia users.
Notably, it all worked back in early December with the exact same setup, including the driver version. So far the strongest hypothesis is a Sky update changing the capture procedure in a way that something nVidia (probably the driver) does not anticipate or support, rendering it inoperable. If so, there isn't really anything users can do about it but wait for TGC to take action.
Meanwhile yeah, there's at the very least the PrintScreen button and other normal screen capture tools that just capture whatever's on the screen, UI and everything, and forego Steam's screenshot gallery.
[1] Are all of you on Win11?
[2] Have you guys tried turning HDR off for the game's executable (.exe) file?
[3] Have you guys tried running both Steam and the game as admin?
[4] Is Steam overlay enabled for the game?
[5] Do you all not have GFE installed?
[6] Have any of you tried the HDR solution the dev posted? https://thatgamecompany.helpshift.com/hc/en/17-sky-children-of-the-light/faq/1251-how-do-i-use-hdr-high-dynamic-range-on-pc-steam/
[7] Have you guys tried disabling Nvidia Overlay?
[8] Have you guys tried Alt+F1 or Alt+F2 to check if those worked? (Even without GFE installed)
[9] Have you guys tried to use Alt+Z in game, then try the F12 button?
[10] Have you guys tried disabling "Game Mode" (Win11 only)?
[11] Have you guys tried disabling "Fullscreen Optimization" on the game's executable (.exe) file (Win10 only)?
[12] Did any of you tried to screenshot in Windowed mode (Alt+Enter)?
Lastly, did any of you reported here?
https://forms.gle/5J7XL4paqpyhdawT8
If not, then you guys better do so. At least let them know there's enough players with this issue that needs their attention. And get this added to their "known issue" post.
2. No, my configuration does not support HDR.
3. No and I'm not doing that, it's unnecessary for recent games and a security risk.
4. Yes.
5. …yes? As in I don't have it.
6. See 2.
7. No. I don't think I have it at all.
8. Yes. They don't.
9. Yes. Only controls flash for a moment, because they're bound to Z.
10. No, see 1.
11. Yes, no effect.
12. Yes, no effect.
Sure, I can report it to the form. Though I'm pretty sure the devs are aware and the main support channel is probably the way to go.
Where's that form come from though?
That's the official bug report form for the PC Beta.
And though someone might have mentioned it in Discord, the issue itself is not listed in the PC beta official known issue page yet, so it's best to get the dev attention directly and have them put that up as known issue so we can be sure they are working on it.
https://thatgamecompany.helpshift.com/hc/en/17-sky-children-of-the-light/faq/1150-sky-pc-steam-next-fest-full-faq/
Known issue for PC beta link is in there and the link to that form is there as well, and it's been 3 months since they've done any update on that report so they've probably merged it with the main known issue threads along with all platforms, but even still, this issue isn't mentioned in any recent official known issue page...
As far as i am concern, it's not even in the discord known issue list... but it's mentioned by quite a few users there (sadly not a large numbers judging from the quick search engine) and only 1 known report in the bug report about it on discord so far. Need more to get the dev attention imo...
If Steam's built-in screenshot works for you, then your SoM Camera's shot will be saved to your Steam's Screenshot folder as one of the Steam's screenshot (ready for upload and everything). For some Nvidia users, Steam screenshot isn't working in the game at all, so their SoM Camera doesn't save the files as well.
