Sky: Children of the Light

Sky: Children of the Light

Can't run game in HDR Windows 10 (the only HDR supported game I have where it won't work)
Since this game was added to Steam I have tried and never managed to get HDR to function for the game on anything other than my Steam Deck. This is the only game in my Steam library with HDR support that I cannot get to run in HDR on my PC.

I have my HDR monitor set as my main display and am launching the game on it, I have HDR turned on in Windows, I have tried every available option for pixel format (RGB 4:4:4 PC Standard, RGB 4:4:4 Studio, YCbCr 4:4:4, YCbCr 4:2:2) and colour depth (8bpc, 10bpc, 12bpc), I have tried every available framerate that my monitor supports HDR for, I have tried specific launch overrides that force enable HDR for other games, and I have tried changing the graphics performance settings in the Windows settings app.
I additionally read somewhere that apparently with some games enabling OpenGL triple buffering in AMD Adrenaline can sometimes fix the issue, but it did nothing for Sky.

My PC is an MSI Delta 15 A5EFK-001 laptop:
Ryzen 7 5800H
AMD Radeon™ RX6700M
10G GDDR6
1TB NVMe SSD

And my HDR monitor is a BenQ Mobiuz EX270M

Update:
By some miracle only a few hours after writing this, I found an inconvenient and annoying, but actually working solution.

It appears to be an issue caused by having a monitor that does support HDR, and a monitor that doesn't support HDR. Regardless of launching the game exclusively on the HDR monitor, it will not be able to enable HDR unless the non-HDR display is turned off.

In the Windows settings application, if I go to display and set multiple displays to only show on 2, it will allow me to launch the game in HDR. Once the game has been launched, I can set multiple displays back to extend, and the game will retain its HDR status until I close the game.
The inconvenience comes in that I have to do this every single time I launch the game, and doing so moves every single window I have open over to the secondary display. This is likely not an annoying inconvenience to some people, but as someone who usually has a lot of different windows open all at once, it's something I would very much prefer not to deal with.

Considering the method I've found for getting the game to run in HDR, I'm not surprised it's taken me 9 months to figure out as I have never encountered any HDR capable game that behaves in this way.

I hope that this may reach anyone having a similar issue, and that perhaps in the future it may no longer be necessary through updates.

This might be because games usually work in fullscreen mode and offer windowed borderless (which handles Alt+Tabbing a lot better) as an option with some limited graphical options, and Sky only supports the latter. If so… I wouldn't hope that this would be fixed, but who knows.

(now that I think about it, I think DRG requires proper fullscreen for HDR, though its HDR support is still experimental)
